If he starts playing in Jan 2013, he should be first asked to prove both his fitness and his ability by playing in the domestic season (though by Jan most of the domestic season will be over) No way he is going to just walk into the Indian Team. Except for the one match against SA, he has done nothing in the last 3 years. In the WC he was total crap in both the games he played. Fortunately India won despite him. Even in his home state of Kerala the newspapers and magzines were full of jokes about his WC campaign. At present his chances of making a comeback into the Indian squad is less than that of Harbhajan Singh. For ODIs even players like Munaf and Balaji are better options than him.

He would have played this T20 wc if fit, heard in an interview BCCI asked him about his fitness. He should ideally play 2-3 games in domestic that's all. I think this will lengthen his career. Think of all the strain bowlers get from bowling so many overs. He will play longer now and hopefully more hungry.
