Nova Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Yes, but not necessarily so. This phenomenon is widespread in US politics. The skill and knowledge set of lawyers allow them to better understand, appreciate and debate policy/civic matters. Plus, good lawyers make a lot of money and have better connections with lobbies, corporations and the rich. This gives them more opportunities for campaign funding - a crucial factor in elections.

b555 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Nothing in the code of ethics prohibits a lawyer from making factual misrepresentations in court filings, which they do all the time. The "code" does prohibit lying but it is excused by "zealously representing their clients", so, in reality, the "code" excuses lying. And also "Since lawyers are basically trained to take any side of an argument, it’s not that they are trained to be open-minded. It’s that they are taught to lose their moral center." which doesnt happen in any other profession . So here yo go :)
