There is no one factor for a successful Test bowler - pace, action etc. are all tools at your disposal. A bowler himself needs to find his remedy for success. There have been successful bowlers in history with unorthodox actions (Mike Procter), spinners who hardly spin the ball (Kumble) who are still successful. Wasim Akram calls bowling an "art" not science - and I agree to that. It's not a check list - do 1,2,3 ... and you voila you become successful. You've got to use your faculties, adapt to different conditions, bowl appropriate lengths, vary pace to be successful. Just keeping on bowling 90 mph with no direction, no length and to the advantage of the batsman at the other end is called stupidity not fast bowling.

It is all planning. They had nothing in mid to late 90s and early to mid 2000s bar few. Most were trundlers and swing bowlers' date=' but their systemic planning is brewing fruits now.[/quote'] True they are good at planning. Just look at the Olympics, to achieve that spectacular medal tally, planning commenced a long long time ago. We really need to look into their sporting models.
