Quota systems are working for SA

Their was a lot of up roar in SA as basically quotas were introduced to ensure certain amount of ccoloured players in SA team. This was official/unofficial. This meant that players were not selected purely on merit but on basis of skin i.e reverse aparthied almost. This was to address the historical bias against the coloured players and to help development of them to ensure the team was more representative of the country. When this came in even i thought it was wrong and not fair. But lets be honest its worked. Now they seem to have much stronger team as they now selecting from a much wider pool of players who are developing and performing. Look at the new names who have grabbed the chance Prince, Amla, Khan, Duminy and Ntini and more. The quota system has worked for them and they are and will be much stronger due to this. All the murmurs about why these player are included have ended as they deliver and SA win. This system has also worked in rugby with the murmurs stopping. They have a black coach now who all the whites objected to. They are world champs now and have many blacks in the team and fringes. They are winning and performing.

Correlation does not imply causation. Players like Philander are not in the team because of quota system. they merit selection on their talent alone. If talented coloured players were not being selected before then CSA should strive to decrease the bias among the selectors, not put in an artificial measure to shore up numbers of coloured players. the most important step would be to increase investment in infrastructure and support to ensure more students take up the sport.

Imran Khan. I guess he played against Australia once. He is an opener. I doubt quota system is making much difference if selectors are not biased against colored people. Those non-whites who are in the team probably would have found a place even if such system was not in place.
