rkt.india- one of the songs you posted is not Mukesh's; Mahendra Kapoor sang "Hai Preet jahan ki feet...." from Purab aur paschim not Mukesh

You need Mukesh to ensure you once again appreciate Kishore and Rafi. The profound words of wisdom were spoken by early 20 something JCO when I was at the NDA AFSB selection at Benaras (modern day Varanasi). After the gruelling day long physical training we were introduced to this lad who had been us a few years back and was now a finished product out of Khadagvasla. His aura amongst us 16-17 year olds may very well have been much more than cricketing greats of today. He was there to help any questions we may have. But I digress. We were at a bonfire and a conversation started around the favorite singer. Kishore was hands down the favorite (60% or so), Rafi second (30%) or so and only 1 person mentioned Mukesh Chandra Mathur as his favorite. Now Mukesh was well respected and easily one of the all time greats but hardly the favorite for a bunch of 17 year olds. As we looked slightly perplexed at the chap, the JCO smiled and let out his own falsafa. It went thus... Now is the time when most of you would be introduced to girls in your life the first time. If you get serious about one of them you embrace Kishore Kumar with his unbridled youth voice singing Yeh Dil na Hota bechaara or Chala Jaata hoon Kissi ki dhun mein. If you are lucky and she reciprocates that is when you introduce you to Rafi with his silken romantic voice a ka Na Jhatko julf se paani or Teri bindiya re. But as happens with every 17 year old you will be heart broken by the same girl for a variety of reasons, and thats when Mukesh will swoop in, and embrace you. Thats when you shall go the Koi gar tumhara hriday tod de, tadapta hua jab chor de, tab tum mere paas aane priye, mera ghar khula hai khula hi rahega tumhare liye. Like someone close who never wanted any return he will embrace you and get you to the point where you would come back to life. You need Mukesh to ensure you once again appreciate Kishore and Rafi. Years later I would read something similar in Vikram Chandra's Sacred Games. Only this time instead of Air Force interview it had the settings of a jail. Case of life imitating arts or arts imitating life perhaps?

I was a small kid when I watched "Teesri Kasam" on Doordarshan. Mukesh left an ever-lasting impression on me with his song "Diniya banane wale". Then I watched Anadi and heard "Sab kuch sikh humne". But the song that impressed me the most was "Jaane kaha gaye wo din". IaOd84Z2s7s OLZoBJxlQBA
