Nova Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 MELBOURNE: A contractor of Australia's supermarket chain Coles has come under fire for publishing a job advertisement, which barred Indians or Asians from applying. "Store requires no Indians or Asians please. Must speak English (sic)", read the online ad posted on Sunday. The ad on the Gumtree website sought cleaners for a supermarket at Eastlands Shopping Centre in Hobart, according to local media reports. It triggered outrage on social media sites, with people calling for a boycott of the store. Local newspaper 'The Mercury' reported that the ad was later removed from the site. A Coles spokesman on Monday admitted the ad had been posted by a contract company responsible for cleaning its Rosny store. "The ad was placed without Coles' knowledge and we were extremely concerned to learn of the ad and its contents," spokesman Jim Cooper said. Tasmania's anti-discrimination commissioner Robin Banks was qouted as saying that she wanted to track down the cleaning contractor to pursue possible legal action. "It's unlawful to blanket preclude a person because of their race," she said. Banks said she often received complaints about job ads that discriminated against particular races. She said both the company offering the position and the publisher of the advert could be subject to legal action. "Gumtree is probably in breach (of the law) as well because the Act says you can't publish, display, etcetera, material that is discriminatory," Banks said, adding "I've had other ads in print form and other sites brought to my attention, which I've followed up with the publisher. Cleaner, Sweepers etc Every job is respectable as ppl does those professionaly. Ausies being racist on Indians aint new thing, its well known for ppl living there. And FYI lot of Indian origins work there in Coles. This is a outraged news for ppl livin Aus.
Desi Cartman Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 People have no idea what is happening in Aus, there are so many Indians moving there every year that you cant go to a store, bank or anywhere without seeing at least 10-15 desis. If I was a born Aussie I would have been concerned too. The demographic is changing so fast that its unbelievable. In white majority countries, immigration for non-white people is never easy. Having said that, its moronic to state anything like this idioot did in the ad or to discriminate at work place. From my experience in Aus, I never ever faced racism at work, interviews , universities. In fact people went extra mile to make me feel welcome. For ex: I can take a public holiday on Diwali if I want . OTOH desis have been crying foul for eternity and making mountain out of molehill in most cases. My wife's colleague used to complain that white people in office didnt like her cuz she was Indian but in reality she was asked to put on deodorant as kids with whom she used to work complained about her. Her defense, Hindus cant use deo , especially when they are pregnant. So people BS and then whinge .. Of course there are many aussie morons and many incidents happened but most of the times people in India didnt get to read the other side of story. Like in the above example, my wife worked at the same place as her friend and she used to love working there and made many friends.

Not to mention, every Nando's seems to have at least 3 Indian people running it! Indians that live in Australia, they pull out the racist card for everything - I didn't get a job interview because my skin colour is brown, I didn't get a promotion because the other candidate was white, my lecturer awarded more marks to the classmate because I had an Indian sounding name blah blah blah
