Shouldn't Dhoni also resign as test captain ?

Recommended Posts

Dhoni has been given minimal responsibility for the debacle. The question is what is the benchmark for a good performance from him. If we expect him to make runs, no we can't do that because he is not a specialist batsman. If we expect him to take catches or at least not ruin them for the slips, no we can't do that because he might not be a great keeper but he is a package. If we expect him to get the best out of his bowling attack by astute captaincy, no we can't do that because our batting was abysmal. If we expect him to lead the team through inspirational performances like Ganguly's 144 or Kapil's 9-83, no we can't do that either because he an ordinary batsman and ordinary keeper. What can we expect out of Dhoni then? What's the benchmark for a good performance from him?
So the guy who averages 38 as a wk batsman and is more than a decent keeper is supposed to be dropped for whom? Saha who can barely score a 30 or that great prospect Pappu Patel? You make it sound as if Dhoni drops catches left, right and center. As for getting the best oot of bowling sure go ahead and get the best out of a bowling attack where Zak breaks down on day 1, unlucky Ishant, wayward Umesh and the gang.

1. Dhoni flopped as a batsman in the 0-8. Dhoni fanboy: It's not his job to score runs. He is a wicketkeeper-batsman. 2. He sucked as keeper regularly letting catches go between himself and slip and standing too far back so that many edges fell short of the slips. Dhoni fanboy: He is not the best keeper but as a package he is great. 3. His captaincy was poor letting opposition get to huge scores with defensive fields. Dhoni fanboy: Bowling was poor. What can the captain do with injured and poor bowlers. So what is Dhoni's role in the team?
To Take credit for wins through great captaincy.

Its like we've got a line up of top class wicket-keepers batsman waiting to replace him :dontknow: Also lots of double standards re his captaincy, he's not credited a lot for 2011 world cup win as he was 'gifted' the team from the greatest indian captain of all time Ganguly :giggle: but gets the flak for 8-0 drubbing. He is responsible for 8-0 no one is denying that but if we r to replace him, I don't see any other option than Gambhir who himself is performing worse than Dhoni and may face axe if his poor form continues.

Can't score runs, not a batsman. Can't take brilliant catches or come up to make things easier for slips, not a great keeper. Can't lead from the front in batting. Can't give extra teeth to a mediocre attack as captain. So what exactly is he good at on which he can be judged. If a Tendulkar goes through 10-12 tests without a century people ask question on his form. If Zaheer or Harbhajan would go 10-12 tests without a major impact with the ball, people will question them. So, why exactly is Dhoni a holy grail that he can't be questioned after averaging in the 20s, letting catches fly between himself and slip, standing too deep back for catches to carry to the slips, and presiding over 0-8, the worst ever overseas showing by an Indian team in 40 years. Simple question - what should Dhoni's benchmark performance be in places like South Africa, England, and Australia as batsman, keeper, and captain for one to say he did poorly?

Just like any player, if another player emerges who is better than Dhoni get him in the team. But I'm not aware of any wk-batsmen knocking teh door down with their performances. Dhoni did so when Ratra & Karthik were the incumbents and it's up to the fringe players to put pressure on Dhoni just like Pujara, Kohli, Rahane etc. did on the middle order batsmen. Unfortunately whatever I have seen of Saha doesn't inspire much confidence other than leading me to believe he can at max score a 30 odd. Karthik would have been a much better option but he still suffers from brain farts and his keeping has fallen off a bit as well.

Dhoni should be given series against England at home with their weakened batting and at home if India does not win the series 3-0 at least' date=' it should be bye bye Dhoni as a captain.[/quote'] This is the mistake that Indians did in 93. Azhar was given a last chance vs England at home after debacles of Aus and SA tours (though not so much of debacles as Dhoni's team achieved), and he won 3-0. After that for almost next 4-5 years, he kept getting some cheap wins as home and stayed at helm, without Indian cricket moving in forward direction. Dhoni should not be allowed to do similar.

Saha insprired more confidence in single test that he played, then what Dhoni did in all 7 test matches put together.

It is not a govt job that dhoni is in,In sports you do not need to better than a player at start of career to get a chance.Saha excluded more confidence than top order players .

Yup, and the guy who actually helped us get to a score of 290 is the one you want dropped :giggle:

He is tactically the most inept captain I have seen in some time. He has shown no learning curve in tests. In ODIs' date=' in Indian conditions, yes he is good.[/quote'] That is not the truth. He is good handling spinners when conditions are spin friendly, in India or anywhere else, but he is poor handling fast bowlers. Tactically, he is better than any captain we had in recent times even better than Ganguly.
