Dravid looked good until his wrong dismissal, he should be at one down always, I dont fancy VVS coming in at 0/1 agst the newer ball.

That innings of 281 which i personally rate as the greatest innings i have ever seen was made on a relatively low track against the best bowling lineup in the world.

Who has performed the way he has against tough team besides Dravid? He is a MUST for the world cup, make him the vice captain of the one day team also for the next series, and trust me the guy will perform if he noes his place is secured and he is not pressured like many instances before.

Dinesh Mongia: Given a million chances to perform in big tournaments such as Champions, World Cup but never performs, club style bowler, scored 40 at his best and place is secured. Laxman: A proven matchwinner, Experienced, scored against quality teams, A good deputy to Dravid, Good with tail, Plays rash shots, but if a given another chance its a big one. Improved runner between the Wickets, more fit, more swift Surely deserves a chance for the next one day series, if he is not selected it is a misfortune.

Re: VVS Laxman is the best Indian batsman Replying to munda pakistani, there is no consistency in tracks in the indian subcontinent, one can be a bouncer one can be a low ball, for example taking it back to the time where he got bowled by Mohammad Asif, Shabbir, Sami, Shoaib and all those Pakistani bowlers lets see if they could have done that in a pitch in Australia, South Africa, or even ENgland for that matter, and the way Asifs bowl came in on him in Karachi, theres no way that was a legitimate ball something was done too it, thats for sure.

Re: VVS Laxman is the best Indian batsman its unfortunate too see that Laxman never played county cricket even if he got offers from Glamorgan, because seriously i think hes a batsmen that always been casually dealt with by Indian cricket board until recently since Vengsarkar and even Raju are very Laxman oriented selectors compared to most, they seem to back him the most. I think if he played county cricket he would really shine especially seeing that Mongia, Kaif, and Yuvraj have all played.

Anyways just for the record i hope you remember that even in the 2nd innings he produced a similar ball to Sehwag and at that time the ball was mere 1 OVER old....then he did it again to Sangakarra and this time the ball was around 5 overs old and right after that he produced another one to Samrawera! So if you think it was because of tampering then more power to you.

Laxman is more like Inzi except lax likes aus and inzi likes the minnow bowling attacks. Unfortunately there is only 1 aus but 3-4 minnow bowling attacks around the world.

He was good today ...but i wouldn't call him the best indian batsman......i have seen the face far too often to accept that statement.

too bad that he has got out bowled less often (in terms of %age of innings played) than RSD :-P when will folks actually watch the game, instead of making sweeping generalizations based on mere conjecture? i had shot this myth to smithereens waaay back over yonder.

Re: VVS Laxman is the best Indian batsman re: OP, the battle between Nel/Ntini and VVSL was absolutely gripping, esp after tendlya's schoolboy dismissal when the two coulda sealed the series. the blow to his left arm was wicked! not to say that VVS didnt have his daft moments. Shastri was saying how important it was for SRT and VVSL to see of the first 40 minutes and make runs when the pitch dries out later. Just when he was saying that, VVSL who was looking solid all along tries playing a hook shot and almost got out. And then SRT who was looking gorgeous plays a completely idiotic shot and gets out. Couldn't understand the thinking behind any of these shots. In walks Kumble who usually tries his best and hangs in there well. Lo and behold, there he was wafting at that one yesterday when logic said he should have hung in there with Laxman. These from the 3 senior members in the squad who have witnessed many a morale-shattering defeat abroad and who know how difficult it is to win abroad. (SCG is an enigma--or is that eNAGMA??--couple of decent outings and then he forgets his chashma in the dressing room for this one). Atleast VVSL for his part, didn't do anything silly after that. Of all the bats he has looked the best of the lot. I thought the warning signs were clearly there in T1, except it got masked by the fact that SA were even poorer than India. PS: i really think the "think" tank needs to sit down and figure out two basic things: 1. how the tail should bat with a senior around. 2. more imp, how a senior should bat with the tail. a couple of b!tch-slaps may not be out of order. :-)

The home pace attack is still one-dimensional, but is bowling in better areas. The length balls around the off-stump have been mixed well with the lifting short-pitched deliveries. The fiery Andre Nel too was a major factor at Kingsmead. Jacques Kallis should return for the third Test. He was a happy part of South Africa's victory party in Durban. When The Hindu queried him about his back strain, Kallis responded, "I should be all right for the Test. I am feeling much better." The South Africans could give the pacy Dale Steyn another fling. He too seems to have put his fitness issues behind. There are also whispers about the host picking a spinner, keeping the pitch here in mind. In that scenario, left-armer Paul Harris could be in the frame.
