Sean Bradley Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Champions league, the most Bizzare league of past decade with clear intention of making money. Tournament biased towards IPL team's, very poor standard of cricket. It has got to a point of over commercialising the game. Isnt it dead obivious that no one's giving jack shyte about this tournament, the fan's, the player's, everyone are just going through the motions and waiting for this tournament to get over. P.S : Mod's, please dont move this thread to IPL forum.
jairamesh Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 It's only the IPL teams doing jack shyte getting their asses handed to them by unknown players. There is plenty of diving and emotions amongst the non-IPL teams.
Debutant Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 All the teams are pretty serious. Am sure plenty of fans are enjoying it myself included. If you don't like then watch some porn and be happy. Stop crying

Who claimed that it is developing cricket in India and is good for cricket. I never said that. Just because you don't like something does not mean that it should not take place.

DarthSimian Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Just because you enjoy something does not mean it is good for the game and the development of the game in India. I don't necessarily agree that all tournaments should be for the development of the game. Some are for pure entertainment and I am enjoying Champions League very much and quite happy following it.
Crookbond Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Who claimed that it is developing cricket in India and is good for cricket. I never said that. Just because you don't like something does not mean that it should not take place. You are missing the point - like or not like is not the point. Is it appropriate to play T20 when you have an important Test series coming up? is the issue under discussion. I feel that our batsmen better be playing FC than T20. I don't necessarily agree that all tournaments should be for the development of the game. Some are for pure entertainment and I am enjoying Champions League very much and quite happy following it. My priority is winning the next 2 Test series at home after a disastrous performance I have ever seen by India in Test cricket. To do that, I want my players to be in best shape and to do so it is imperative for them to play as many FC games as possible rather than "entertainment cricket".

Entertainment was world T20, this tourny is flawed right at the grass root level's, the format, 4 IPL team's, targeting Indian audience to generate revenue from sponsors, TV rights, like fixing an additional piece in the jigsaw puzzle. And all at the expenses of our players. We have a long seasson ahead, with test matches with Eng, SA. You look at dhoni yesterday, and you would feel that he was just going through the motions. Our players are fatigued, they need much needed rest, dont want a fatigued team facing england in a test series.

I totally agree what you are telling is correct. Nobody is claiming this tournament is good for Indian cricket.

Champions League is also entertainment and like you said, it targets Indian audience and Indian audience loves the tournament. I do and I see some people who does too. Not everyone needs to like it but most do. It is something that is already planned every year and you cannot micromanage by cancelling it one year just because of tests and having it in another year etc. There is also no point cancelling it altogether because a lot of people enjoy watching it, like myself. There is no need to cancel a tournament to please test cricket fans at the expense of T20 cricket fans. P.S Dhoni has been like that for the past few months - ODI series in SL, tests vs NZ, and World T20. I didn't see any difference in his approach over what he has been doing the past few months.
Crookbond Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 There is no need to cancel a tournament to please test cricket fans at the expense of T20 cricket fans. There is no need to schedule a tournament to please T20 cricket fans and the expense of Test match cricket (not cricket fans!).
Sean Bradley Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 There is no need to schedule a tournament to please T20 cricket fans and the expense of Test match cricket (not cricket fans!). There's no need to puppet Indian players at the expense of "rest" to please T20 fans.
Crookbond Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I am surprised this is seen T20 fans versus Test cricket fans - it is NOT. It is T20 fans/entertainment/money versus Test cricket.
DarthSimian Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 There is no need to schedule a tournament to please T20 cricket fans and the expense of Test match cricket (not cricket fans!). That is the thing. This is a tournament that is going to happen every year and planned to happen very year. It has already been scheduled (except for the dates) much earlier. It does not clash with test cricket. So, it is something there to please T20 cricket fans. Now, cancelling something which is already scheduled is doing it at the expense of T20 cricket fans, which I feel is completely wrong.

Executioner Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Fair point, poor league targetting just Indian viewers wont help. IPL had 3-4 times the following of this league. and the crowds werent so scarce. organizers shouldve ensured that both SA team gets their matches in their home stadium. also, the peculiar timing of the matches can also be criticized. 1 match starts at around 1-30 and dont expect SAffer people to come and watch a match while missing their work. the 2nd match starts at around 5:30 which is a bit early for the 2nd match. This as we all know is to ensure that Indian viewers get to watch the match at suitable timings.
