STUART BROAD had a bitter Twitter row with Ian Botham after England's crushing nine-wicket defeat in Ahmedabad. And there could be more trouble for vice-captain Broad because his place is under threat for the Second Test starting on Friday. Broad, 26, apparently took offence at some pundits criticising England as they went 1-0 down in the four-Test series. Less than two hours after the match ended, he tweeted: "India outplayed us. A few positives but on the whole poor so sorry for that. Onwards and upwards." Then he added: "And before u listen to too many ex playing ÃÆxperts' being negative, ask them if they ever won a Test series in India." Broad did not name names, but legendary all-rounder Botham is among those who believes Broad should be dropped which maybe explains his tetchy tweet. Botham also described the England dressing-room as too "matey" and said it is easier to get into the England team than out of it. And he refused to take Broad's jibe quietly and soon responded: "@StuartBroad8 Didn't average 40+ with the ball overseas...! Not sure what I scored against India with the bat..? #justsaying" When told by a follower that he should not kick Broad when he is down, Botham insisted: "Who started the kicking?" For the record, Beefy played seven Tests in India, scoring 554 runs at 61.55 and taking 30 wickets at 25.53. Sky are showing the Test series but Botham and the other commentators are describing the action in London from a TV feed because of a dispute with the Indian board. Broad later tried to play down the incident when he tweeted: "Spat with @BeefyBotham? What spat? Love Beefy, best bowler England have ever had, then add his batting. Twitter is funny at times!" But Kevin Pietersen was fined Ž£3,000 for criticising Sky commentator and former England batsman Nick Knight earlier this year. Captain Alastair Cook faces some tough decisions as he tries to halt England's incredible slump in Test cricket. And decision No 1 is does he drop Broad? The omission of English cricket's very own Golden Balls looms as a real possibility as England try to haul themselves back into the series. They have lost seven of their 12 Tests this year since becoming the world's No 1 team. It is an alarming decline and, for all Cook's personal heroics by scoring 217 runs in the match, the rest of the batting disintegrated once more in Asian conditions. If England want to bring in Steven Finn, their fit-again fastest bowler, and spinner Monty Panesar for Friday's match in Mumbai, it means leaving out Tim Bresnan and either Broad or Samit Patel. Cook hinted at more changes than the one enforced by Ian Bell's departure for the birth of his first son. Bell was so anxious to be with wife Chantel that he left for the airport before the last rites of the match were over. Cook must also show his mettle as a leader and find a way of instilling confidence in the engine room of England's batting Jonathan Trott, Pietersen, Bell and Patel managed 68 runs between them in eight innings. They could do worse than watch their captain's calm, uncomplicated method. He has a plan for scoring runs but, otherwise, he blocks the ball. Cook said: "There are a lot of quality players in that dressing-room with good records who have scored hundreds against every attack in the world. "They didn't deliver in this game and they know that. "The middle order didn't score enough runs. Everyone must look at themselves if we want to take something out of this series, everyone has to contribute. "Clearly, when you lose by nine wickets, you look at a lot of areas and what you could have done better. There will be a lot to ponder over selection. The result shows we might have got it wrong for this game." * England last won a Test series in India 28 years ago. David Gower was the captain but Ian Botham missed the tour.
