Old guy Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Mumbai is known to have bounce so we can be certain that there will be some bounce and there will be moisture in mumbai considering the humidity factor esp. in the morning session. So I guess we need 2 seamers especially considering the fact that Zaheer is not in very shape to do a lot of work alone ahh.. didnt ishant and aaron played vs west indies in mumbai ? :hmmm: also they are tailoring this pitch to help spinners anyway nothing to discuss dhoni said 2 pacers will play so it will be either yadav if fit or ishant ,if ishant is unfit then dinda
carnish Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Australia also had bounce' date='we know how Ishant exploited that.bounce also helps spinners[/quote'] Ishant was in bad form last year ... we all know that ... he bowled pathetically but we all know he has the talent and has done well before the England series last year ... If our batsmen get so many chances after 8 poor tests Why not Ishant?? Bhajji on the other hand has failed for 3 years in a row without much wickets to his name
Crookbond Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 That is obvious ... but doesnot mean we cannot have a healthy debate and have some fun here. I thought it was a serious discussion - since it's fun I want to play Ajit Agarkar; it would indeed be "fun".
Lord Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 True that. But I would like to have 2 seamers in the side not that I want Ishant only but I would still not go with 3 spinners especially when I have Yuvraj and Sehwag who can roll over their arms. we cant hv seamers just for the sake of it,if we had PK or Irfan who could move the new ball I could still understand, but otherwise doesnt make much sense to play seamers.Ashwin n Ojha are both adept at bowling with harder ball so thats not a problem too
namasteji1 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Can Dinda reverse swing at his express pace? :P
Old guy Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I thought it was a serious discussion - since it's fun I want to play Ajit Agarkar; it would indeed be "fun". dexter we are not gonna get green track here it wil either be slow turner or rank turner.. thats all there is to see also it might bounce a bit with new ball but i dont think it will assist hit the deck bowlers
carnish Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 but Monty is much better bowler than Samit' date='Ishant is not much better,if at all, than Bhajji.cant be hard to grasp that[/quote'] But the fact is we are not picking them on batting abilities. So that argument is not valid. Much better or slightly better or equal, its always the bowling which should be the criteria.
carnish Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I thought it was a serious discussion - since it's fun I want to play Ajit Agarkar; it would indeed be "fun". Fun in the sense to discuss serious views about cricket for Fun. It is not serious discussion since the actual selections are not in our hands. Dhoni would be pretty serious though.

How can you make a discussion on something when you have no knowledge about it? :dontknow:

How can you make a discussion on something when you have no knowledge about it? :dontknow: Assumptions my Friend ... WE cant be at the Wankhede right now to see the pitch and conditions but we can assume from what the pitch was like the last time India played against West Indies there. It spun yet West Indies got 500+ in the first innings.
Lord Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Ishant was in bad form last year ... we all know that ... he bowled pathetically but we all know he has the talent and has done well before the England series last year ... If our batsmen get so many chances after 8 poor tests Why not Ishant?? Bhajji on the other hand has failed for 3 years in a row without much wickets to his name wrong, apart from WI tour,Ishant has sucked since 2010(not counting BD).Bhajji has done okay in India,he sucked in the period u mentioned but still his numbers r better than Ishant's career average
Lord Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 But the fact is we are not picking them on batting abilities. So that argument is not valid. Much better or slightly better or equal' date=' its always the bowling which should be the criteria.[/quote'] but if they r equally good or bad, shouldnt the one with better batting abilities be prefered
carnish Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 but if they r equally good or bad' date='shouldnt the one with better batting abilities be prefered[/quote'] Nope because both are different kind of bowlers and it depends what the team setup is like ... Had it been between spinners I would said pick Bhajji but one is a spinner and the other is a seamer. I am not saying pick Ishant, infact as you said even I would have preffered Irfan or PK but now that we dont have them doesnot mean we will settle for Bhajji.
Lord Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 That is what I am saying we have the spinners we need ... we need to cover our seaming bases too so that there is no extra burden on Zaheer if the need occurs. its not about covering bases, its playing your best attack.in Eng/Oz we dont play two spinners to cover base but play 3 seamers coz they r our best options, same way we should play our 4 best bowlers
King Tendulkar Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Is PK injured?? If not, them picking Bilbo Baggins over him is pure comedy by selctors

Its spin vs pace that I am talking about ... Is that so hard to understand????
