Need a long term plan

Guys I am bitterly disappointed the way we have played in this game. We simply are not playing our best otherwise this would not happen. Too many passengers and reliant upon a few players. Even this is not proving to be enough at hoome. I am annoyed that Gambhir has made runs because I think we need some serious changes and he is one of them. Drop Gambhir from all formats and give Rahane a go. Yuvraj is not a test player, any bit of seam movement or good spin is enough to remove him. Tiwary should be tried. Viru must play because he is irreplaceable at the top when he comes off. Bhajji should never be near the team again and I am happy he will be left stranded on 99 like Azharudin. This guy has done nothing and just walked back into the team. Tendulkar is the one being carried the most and I do maintain that he is one of the most mentally weak players these days. I still think skill wise he is up there. We must prepare rank turners because if we have roads we are showing a lack of confidence to the opposition. We have to back ourselves. Need fresh faces but we seem reluctant to introduce any.

I agree completely the Pakis beat England 3-0 in our conditions with a spinning ball we should be destroying them this is a crap performance thus far the game not done yet but it's an uphill battle in this game! I agree tho we have to stick to rank turners! This game we didn't play to our best but we are better players of spin than them 99 times out of 100

Our team is much better. We have to remember it was KP and Cook who did the damage. KP is their only class act. But we have many such batsmen. Cook is not a match winner and a limited player, we can use this to our advantage. I think we didn't select our best team and turn up. Hopefully we will make some overdue decisions in the next 2 matches and come back strong. England can't play spin to save their lives and we bowled appalingly.

Agree, fact of the matter is England had to go with a begging bowl to their one class batter KP (South African) England are useless against Spin jadeja gave them fits in the ODIs last year Ffs. My man of the match is Aleem Dar! The 12 th man shouldn't get a visa to India again hopefully the BCCI will look into this properly

He is a cheating Paki. Too many wrong decisions. This doesn't mean we need DRS, just not a biased/blind Paki umpire!

There is plenty of long term planning going in the background but the manhoos selectors continue to ignore this work by bringing back likes of Yuvi, Bhajji, Chawla, Raina etc. Here are two squads of "next in line" players that went on recent away tours:

India A tour to WIndies: Cheteshwar Pujara (capt), Wriddhiman Saha (vice-capt), Abhinav Mukund, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Rahul Sharma, Ashok Dinda, Jalaj Saxena, RP Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Robin Bist, Akshay Darekar, Shami Ahmed
This was a tough tour played on rank turners where Pujara, Rohit and Tiwary topped the charts and Rahane and Saha did ok. In the bowling dept, B Kumar, Rohit, Darekar, Dinda and Shami stood out. Overall Stats: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling.html?class=13;id=7319;type=tour
India A tour to NZ: Abhinav Mukund (capt.), Naman Ojha (wk), Mandeep Singh, Anustup Majumdar, Unmukt Chand, Ashok Menaria, Ambati Rayudu, Suryakumar Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akshay Darekar, Vinay Kumar, Shami Ahmed, Jalaj Saxena, Rahul Sharma, Rituraj Singh and Jaydev Unadkat
Here Rayudu was stand out performer, Mukund did well, and Mandeep and Menaria each played one huge innings. In the bowling department Unadkat and Vinay topped the charts, unfortunately Shami only played 2 games (due to injury) but got 5 wkts at aver of 23. Overall stats: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling.html?class=13;id=7420;type=tour So surely one has to understand the confusion when selectors plum for the likes of Yuvi, Bhajji, Ishant, Raina, and out of form Gambhir, Tendu, and Sehwag. And one has to question why were the likes of Bhajji, Ishant, and Raina not on the A tours.

I remember that A tour. I thought Pujara was the only one who batted well overall. Bhajji is too old and established for A tours. He should play domestic and grind it out. Mukund showed heart in England but seems to have some technical issues too. We need to implement all this but in reality we are too scared. A big series like England and we will always go to "experienced players" no matter how poor they have been for years. We missed our chance to groom some more guys v WI and NZ before abroad challenges. Also we don't select proper test players, usually give priority to people who have done well in limited overs which makes no sense. Likes of Tiwary, Badri, even Kaif are more solid test batsmen then UV.. Travesty that Pankaj was not on that A tour.

What's also a travesty is that no Indian player made his Test debut this year considering the 0-8 drubbing we got last year. It's a joke that none of Rahane, Rohit, Tiwary, Shami, Awana or Saha got a chance to play even one Test. And yet we prevailed with Raina, Bhajji, Yuvi, Ishant, Gamhbir, and Sehwag even when they failed one game after another. There is fundamentally something wrong if we are not promoting deserving players from the A tours/Duleep trophy to the first team XI.

Oh I agree as per my post above. We didn't give new caps. Such a joke. The talent is there for batting at least!

Looks like BCCI wants to kill test cricket with repeat defeats. Young cricketers want to save themselves for IPL these days and don't do their best in domestic cricket. Even Pujara got hurt in an IPL match and needed surgeries and long layoff to get back to the team.

Blaming the performance on England relying on KP or a couple of bad decisions by Dar would be missing the point. Fact is we couldn't get past the one world class batsman England had in there lineup (or two if you include Cook in that list). As for Dar BCCI had the option of going with DRS as bad decisions are part of the game. The fact is we were outplayed and that we are not good enough to get past a couple of bad umpiring decisions.

I have been hearing this long term plan Bs after the eng series ,In india nothing is planned it just happens. We moaned how seniors were responsible to our failure in away tours and they retired now we moan about decisons and pitches.

We can never make tough calls and take the easy way out as seen by our "transition plan" in phasing out the seniors, or lack thereof. Here everyone wants a piece of the pie without an accountability and the hard part is left (or deferred) for the next guy in. Nothing will change either and we have to accept we will continue wallowing in mediocrity.

Sandeep pPatisl is to looking long term as he himself. He will take it seris by series so forget about any long term thing.
Decision to bring in Harbhajan and Yuvi are enough indicators what his "vision" and "long term plan" is" :giggle: The guy is no different from Srikkanth. the only person who could have made the difference (Mohinder Amarnath) was dumped from the selection committee at the last minute.

Starting to see this aspect. But it's early days. You don't want to make a bold move as soon as you start your term. You want to be cautious and how they react to this will be an indicator.

Lets wait and watch. I wouldn't want to give my judgment out too early.
