I don't think comparing Dhoni with Ganguly is the right thing. Ganguly didn't have well wishers in the BCCI unlike Dhoni. Nor was Ganguly like Dhoni who got a ready made team made by Ganguly. Ganguly was removed from captaincy for no reason. Everybody knows what happened. Under Ganguly, India didn't lose 8-0 abroad. Neither India faced humiliating defeats at home and go down without giving a fight. Ganguly was never like Dhoni. When India lost you could tell from his face that he was upset. Looking at Dhoni you would feel it just doesn't matter whether India loses or wins after all there is always Chennai Super Kings which is much more important than India.

Ganguly rose and fell with Dalmiya. Had there been no power struggle at BCCI, India would not have lost that test against Australia where we got a bouncy track. Ganguly would have remained captain for a longer time. BCCI was looking for an opportunity to kick him out and he gave them one by blaming Greg after scoring a century (against Zib??)

Even in his terminal career stage, he scored a century against Pak, scored good scores against Aus in Ind, etc. I don't see HOW DHONI can justify his place in the team? His average is 18 FFS :facepalm: Even Gauti/ Viru have more runs than him and people want them to be sacked earlier :((

Atleast he was getting the odd 50's and btw, his leanest patch (atleast in tests) resulted in a average of 39 after 2007. Compare this to Dhoni's past 2 years average

Yes he scored in England and 1 100 in Oz, but overall he was very poor with the bat. I don't have the averages but I remember him being the walking wicket on most series. Also, right before his sacking he scored a 250 ball 100 against Zim. And 2007, he was no way near captaincy was he? Infact, post 2006 he had some of his best years as a batsman.

We struggled to beat Zim during that period and without Ban, it is 36.71. LOL, ganguly's average as captain is the same as dhoni's CAREER average. no comparison. ganguly was the most hated cricketer in india back in 2005. in some ways, it made sense, because he wasn't doing anything with the bat and india drew a test series at home with a pathetic paki team in which his captaincy was awful. but that run of results was absolutely NOTHING compared to what india has gone through with dhoni. by looking at the two situations, you can see how support from the top can make a big difference in determining a captain's life-span. ganguly had none, and dhoni has all the support he could ask for.

Ganguly had full time support from Dalmiya. I don't know how can you miss out on that bit. It's only when Dalmiya was replaced that the problems started with Ganguly. And then the Chappell Era began.
