India should dominate cricket.

You're a cricket mad nation with over a billion population. You guys should dominate the way the Aussies and West Indies did but unlike those two you should consistently dominate. Instead you get owned by some public schoolboys from England and sports mad Aussies. Why is this though? When it comes to cricket you guys should be like Brazil at football. You've improved overall since the 90's but your test record is pretty bad. You've lost like 50 or 60 more matches then you've won. A country like India should have more test wins then losses.

Just the same reason English Soccer team sucks at the global level...hey atleast we have worldcups across 2 formats and a no1 ranking to show for....what about England?

Shoulda coulda woulda... There's many a slip between the cup and the lip and as maniac316 pointed out India is to cricket what England is to football. By the way welcome back kellogs. I was really worried about you after the Pak series :winky:

England doesn't have a billion population. Brazil has three times our Pop, Germany has 20M more, Spain and France about the same. The nature of Football is very different to cricket. Switzerland beat Spain at the 2010 WC. Would be the equivalent of Afghanistan beating Aus in a test match.

Actually more like B'desh beating Aus in an odi, or Zim beating Aus in an odi, or Kenya beating WI in an odi, or Ireland beating England in an odi... I could go on but you get the point. Upsets happen all the time.

One look at our seniors should tell you that.

I'm more on about test cricket. You've never won a series in SA or Aus. If you're going ODI cricket then you guys should dominate that. Aus or England will win the next CWR. Most likely Aus, SA will choke and India won't do much on Aussie/kiwi wickets.

It's not about the billions. Not all the billion citizens are privileged enough to afford the luxury of cricket. Most of them are below the poverty line working to make ends meet. The ones who have 'access' to cricket, prioritize education over sport, that's a cultural problem. Still many take up the sport. However, our placid tracks & lack of big bowling heroes mean no one wants to take up fast bowling. Without good fast bowlers we are always going to struggle as a test nation. This also means, our batsmen grow up playing slow bowlers on slow tracks and are not quite up to international standards. Speaking of domination, I'd think England should be dominating the sport that it invented. But if you take a honest look at England's record, it is shockingly poor. No world cups till date, even your test side was pretty ordinary until recently, given all the infrastructure & the leagues you have. Why is that ?

All our problems lies in the fact that our domestic structure is really bad. Theirs not enough incentives for teams at the grass roots level to go out and actively seek new talent. Even if you look at the IPL its obvious that the lack of competition (not only amonst the teams but also against other leages like ICL that the ipl destroyed) they don't spend a lot of resources going out and finding new talent. The problem with cricket is similar to the problems in general with India. Also part of the problem is this chest thumping nationalism when ever we win and excuse making when we loose. People need to complain about our crappy domestic circuit even when we are number one in tests and wc winners. Not just when we loose. But asian teams in general struggle at moment of rebuilding because of the crappy domestic structure, India isn't that unique in that way.

Put simply. Crickets a minority sport over here compared to football. I'll admit when it comes to football we have been pretty terrible. At cricket we've done pretty well. Only Aus really owns us in tests and that was pretty even up untill about 25 years ago. Our ODI record is average, but we don't take OD criket as seriously as tests. We've played the least of ODI's out of all the test playing nations with the exception of SA, who couldn't compete for 20 years. We play more tests then anyone else. We can't dominate at every sport we invent. Our country isn't big enough and we did dominate when we first invented these sports. Inventing a sport nearly 150 years ago and expecting us to dominate from now till the end of time is bit silly.

You pretend not to take ODIs seriously, because you suck at it. Had you taken Test cricket that seriously, you wouldn't have been whitewashed a few million times in Tests. India has taken cricket seriously only post 1970s, whereas you've taken cricket seriously ever since you invented it. And do let us know, when you really 'dominated' any sport that you invented. I guess you guys take football seriously as well, but the name of your team never gets registered in record books in the column of winners.

Nobdy cares about ODI's in England. Ashes is bigger, and it's similar in Australia despite them winning four world cups. ODI cricket is not considerered real cricket. Only the smaller cricket countries like Sri Lanka and India prefer ODI's because their test records are diabolical. When England won the 20/20 it barely got a mention. The WC gets televised but it doesn't get the build or hype of the ashes. We sucked at tests in the 80's and 90's. That's it, India have been good in tests between 2000-2011 and that's it. Pretty poor return for a country with a 7th of the worlds population. We've beaten you 40 times in tests and you've beaten us half that.:hatsoff:

We've taken cricket seriously in the last 40 years, and you haven't managed to win a series here in the last 28. And we've already beaten you in your backyard twice in the last 16 years. It is shameful for a Test-obsessed country like yours to be so bad in Tests.

You have always sucked, you just don't realize it. Didnt we beat you in England to become world number 1 in early 70s? Been watching cricket for 25 years and let me assure you England has NEVER been a team most countries were afraid. West Indies, Australia, South Africa and even Pakistan took the honours, not England. And yes your record would be good prior to 70s but how many cricket playing countries were back then? No wonder even your own citizens, read Asian Brits, dont support ur team. One win and went straight to your head :haha:

Look at our results in tests since 2000. Only SA and Aus have better win/loss ratios and SA only by a couple of games. India on the otherhand have lost to minnow countries like Zimbabwe. Anway kiss goodbye to your home record it's gonna by 3-1 and that's india's stranglehold gone. No more stellar batting line up to bail you out with draws and no Kumble. We'll whitwash you in next England series and then annihilate you in India again.:yay:

And good for you for that. :two_thumbs_up: Many Indian fans, yours truly included, have been wanting a strong English team for a while. Good to see you throw up a strong team. Whats with this retarded atitude to take Mickey out of Indians though?

Been watching cricket when England were crap. As I already said between the 80's and 90's. Not denying it but India have been crap since forever with the exception of the last 10 years. The asian Brits supporting India or Pakistan also happens in other countries like SA or Australia so that's an irrelevent point.
