jairamesh Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 So we finally have debutant in this series in the form of Jadeja, who was pretty decent with his bowling so far. Whilst England have had two already in this series. Both so far have had relative success.
jf1gp_1 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Not sure who else could have made an impact full debut ? Maybe rahne , I cant believe ppl are now recommending rohit sharma when there have been thread after thread on why there is no place for him in indian cricket. Dhoni going won't change a thing , we will continue to lose.
The Dark Horse Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Dhoni is just not willing to try new players at any cost, Awana/Dinda is a case in Nagpur test

Selectors could have gone for at least 6 to 7 players from the India A squad.

You must know that changing half of the side would not yield any result for the next 2 years. I don't think that is acceptable to anyone.

You must know that changing half of the side would not yield any result for the next 2 years. I don't think that is acceptable to anyone. Obviously not calling for changes in a swipe. But changes have only come about due to retirements. And when I meant "6-7 players", I was merely highlighting that there are options as opposed to one of the posters saying: Not sure who else could have made an impact full debut There was a golden window of opportunity against NZ to question Sehwag, Gambhir and Sachin's places in starting XI. At least dropping one of them would have provided some options for the current debacle. Right now all three are failing so miserably that selectors don't feel bold enough to introduce a rookie.

And there shouldn't even be question of hindsight here, because after the England away series so many of these problems were obvious.

IDK if it would be good or bad - all I'm saying is once you make sweeping changes it takes quite some time to return back to being even an "average" Test side.
Old guy Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 yup, this what i meant. And there shouldn't even be question of hindsight here, because after the England away series so many of these problems were obvious. yes u cant generalize this...if situation demands to sack 7 players then u just have too...u cant keep on playing dead weight just bcos others in team are dead weight too keep it simple u dont perform u get kicked out aussies made 11 changes! amd now we are admiring theres bench strength 2 years ago we were laughing at how juch they have fallen and how no talented player is coming up

We can't keep on changing every 3rd series.
jairamesh Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 I am still positive about India's cricketing future partly due to revamp of the Ranji structure and us winning two of the last three U19 WCs. It's the cronyism at BCCI and in selection panel that's worrying. And if this cronyism continues then talent and deserving players will be barred from playing international cricket. It's rather sickening at some of the blatant cronyism pointed out by journalists still continuing regarding the national team.
Old guy Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Again - I meant once you change it is OK that it takes some time BUT we've got to be patient. We can't keep on changing every 3rd series. ofc give new players time i will give ashwin, kohli more time but bhajji, gambhir will go now as there causes of failures are different and they are at diff at point in there careers have a new team and back them up properly also im asking u this...wht will we gain by backing up sehwag? dont u agree he is finished? same with dhoni do u think they can bounce back ?

Maybe or maybe not, but I really don't think Indian players in Tests will raise their profile in IPL, compared to ODIs and T20Is. I believe the selectors are just too pussy to make bold calls and selections, i.e. new Test captain, dropping Sachin or Sehwag.

Crookbond Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 One particular thing I have a problem with selectors is that they keep making myopic picks - Jadeja and Chawla being perfect examples. I would like them to bet on a long rope and reap the rewards. I also do feel that fans should exercise some patience if such drastic steps are indeed taken.
