CG Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 New Delhi: Former BCCI selector Mohinder Amarnath told CNN-IBN on Wednesday that BCCI president N Srinivasan, who is also the owner of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings that MS Dhoni captains, overruled the sacking of the Indian skipper after India's eight consecutive overseas Test defeats in 2011-12. "All five selectors wanted Dhoni to be sacked after India were whitewashed in England and Australia, but BCCI president intervened to allow Dhoni to continue as captain," Amarnarth told IBN18 Editor-in-Chief, Rajdeep Sardesai, on Wednesday. "I considered resigning as selector after I was overruled. We decided to sack Dhoni and replace him with new ODI and Test captains," the former selector said. "Selectors picked Virat Kohli as captain for the tri-series. Dhoni was dropped from the 17-man squad," he said, adding "Dhoni doesn't deserve to be in the team on current performance. Dhoni is not good enough to play Test cricket for India." Throwing Gautam Gambhir's name into the fray, Amarnath, who is known to play and talk with a straight bat, said until someone is asked to captain, we won't know if he is good to lead India or not. "No captain can survive after two whitewashes in overseas series. Replacement for Dhoni will only be known if someone gets a chance. Gambhir should replace Dhoni as captain of the Indian Test team." Amaranth also hightlighted the need to blood youngsters and giving the selectors a "free hand" in picking a team. "Young players have to be given a chance to perform. BCCI should ensure selectors can function in a free and fair manner," he said. The member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team also suggested that it's time for Sachin Tendulkar to retire. "Sachin should leave the scene quickly, his reflexes have slowed," he opined. Reacting to Amarnath's revelation, IPL chairman,Moron Rajiv Shukla, said, "I don't think it's appropriate for any former selector to make any such statements. This an unnecessary thing. Selectors are independent to take decisions. The board never mounts any pressure on them." Kris Srikkanth, who led the selection panel Amarnath was part of, refused to comment. "I don't want to comment. Everybody has the right to opinion. I would not like to reveal what happened at the selection committee meeting," he said. http://cricketnext.in.com/live/news/srinivasan-stopped-dhonis-sacking-reveals-amarnath/69809-13.html

Lord Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Whitewashed in Eng odis:sick:.selectors wanted new captain in all formats it seems. those were close ODIs,we won WC n beat Eng 5-0 at home
Sean Bradley Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 With all this news making headline in Times Today, this anti Dhoni propoganda, Dhoni Should Hold his Head Still and resign with dignity....Also i can sense a tensed atmosphere in the dressing room tommorrow...another test loss is round the corner.
CG Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 those were close ODIs' date='we won WC n beat Eng 5-0 at home[/quote'] May be they lost faith in his ability to lead and they were right as we know what happened. Also here is another version-which seems a bit accurate
India-KXIP fan Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Any sauce other than Cricket Next? The same site talking about Dhoni complainig about Gambhir.

kubrickian Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 This moron Amarnath has no idea what he is talking about. Why did he want to drop Dhoni as ODI captain despite winning World Cup and generally doing well in ODIs ? Test matches is another matter. This just looks like a personal vendetta more than anything else.

saneindian Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 A few other things Amarnath said - He wanted Sehwag as test captain after Aus series as Dhoni didn't deserve a spot in test side (but Sehwag did?) - Dhoni doesn't deserve to play for India - Gambhir is fit to lead India right now (On being asked about him being batting even worse than Dhoni, he says Gambhir is a front line batsman and can lead the side from the front) - After the tri series in Aus, he was least interested in team selection affairs ( and even then continued in that position for the next 7 months) - He is not saying this to create controversy or because Dhoni has lost 2 tests (Oh yes, he isn't. This is wonderful news for cricket a day before Nagpur test) - Selectors can not be held responsible for the whitewashes in Eng and Aus Amarnath may be talking the right things but sorry there is more to it than meets the eye. Coming from someone who himself called selectors a bunch of jokers, what he is doing right now on one TV channel to the other is nothing better than behaving like a joker himself.
kubrickian Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 :hysterical: doing well in odis? we have been hammered in odis in eng' date='aus, asia cup[/quote'] Lost one game in Asia Cup. Won 5-0 against England and 4-1 against Sri Lanka and of course the World Cup in last one year.

Amarnath just stated that selectors wanted to go with a new captain in all formats.. and we won the world cup mainly because of Yuvraj, not because of your DHOBI :orderorder:

Anyways.Shewag was vice captain at that time 2.gambhir is the only option now as shewag is not intrested it seems. 3.Where did he say that
CG Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Lost one game in Asia Cup. Won 5-0 against England and 4-1 against Sri Lanka and of course the World Cup in last one year. After that lost 5-0 in england,Did not make cb series finals .Did not make asia cup finals.Even t20s we have been knocked out of last 3 wcs in first round.

Gambhir or Sehwag ? Both who played irresponsibly and big reasons for these test failures. What have they done to be even in the team ? What's the need for a new captain across all formats ?
vivek_singh3187 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Whatever it is, but Dhoni is still good for ODI's....but not anymore in TESTS & T20's....Sehwag can captain in Tests while Kohli for T20's....three different captain for different formats.

They wanted kohli to lead .It seems building for the future world cup.
