I am surprised that removing Fletcher has not gotten more votes. Heck, look at the coincidence. Pre-Fletcher, we were on top! Kirsten had these guys purring like a well-oiled Lamborghini. Once Fletcher got them keys, we've turned into Yugo or worse still, a Chevy Volt.

Abolishing the IPL will cost jobs, a chance at a decent income and visiblity for "fringe" players - many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. It may save Test cricket for your and my viewing pleasure, but the cost will be heavy for 100s of players. Is it worth it? Not in my opinion. Moreover, the politics, power-trips and regionalism that plague Indian cricket today are nothing new. We were talking about these issues in the '80s, too. The IPL is just another twist in the argument. Until there is an overall culture of integrity and professionalism at all levels, it is status quo. We lucked out for a while - Dravid, Kumble, Ganguly, Laxman, Tendulkar, and even Dhoni were thorough professionals. Gary Kirsten was a through professional. Don't seem to have that anymore.

One of the reason this happens is because Indian cricket fans have historically been divided into two types of cities - those who host games and will continue to do so and those who never will. I have always been a strong proponent of cricket matches being played all over the country. Somehow when the calendar is chalked out Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, Bangalore get the main events and Cuttack and Indore will receive a token generosity thanks to the haraamis who sit in BCCI. Host a Test match in Lucknow and see how many folks show up. Sure there have to be some ground work done etc but pray do tell what does BCCI make with all these billions it makes? Why would Bombayites show up for a Test match when they get to see International game every year?? Often many times a year?
