Hats off to women and men who are protesting. It is a solid effort to take back one's country and much welcome sight than seeing every issue become BJP vs Congress, North vs South etc. That said, it is a double edged sword. If stronger legislation are made, and cops and criminals convicted that would go a long way in getting rid of molestations against women. If however nothing happens I fear it will only strengthen the culprits. Hope it is the former.

This thread looks like self-flagellation central. With regular intervals of bhaiyya bashing. The rape statistics about Delhi is a shocker in how trivially low it is on a per capita basis. It's unfathomably low even after adjusting for non reported cases. Given the way life is organized in Delhi (and most Indian cities), we should expect stats that is WAY above what we get from our crime bureaus. In Defence colony, in front of my apartment, we have had our roads excavated and now they are being relaid. This has resulted in a temporary settlement of workers' families along the roads. The street that has been newly relaid already has kids rolling on their skates with fancy oversized helmets. How can these workers, surviving each day in unimaginable squalor, not feel resentful towards the affluent residents of this colony? It's shocking that not one of them snapped and did something terrible. The comparable cities I can think of are in South Africa where according to Wiki a woman has more chances of being raped than being a literate.
Living conditions of large number of Indians is very poor.It is just these people have high tolerance ,may be because of religion or nature Crime stats in India is quite low if we look at conditions of these people. On the other elite educated India is struck between modern and backward mentality. They are impressed by Europe and USA and want India to have similar living conditions , law and order etc.But at the same time most of them love to be called by sahab and madam by not so fortunate people..They hardly care what living conditions are these type of people getting and many of them love to abuse

nah am just on a congress payroll
That you certainly are, or love licking the pizza bottoms for some reason. In the space of two posts you spin the issues about lack of power with police departments as well as legislation against crimes related to the BJP. The fact of the matter is, the INC has been in power for the vast majority of the time since Independence. The police dept & crime are not new issues; they've been there for a long time. Besides, the federal govt has a good amount of ability to act on states going rogue. That's if its interested in the welfare of the people.

This Case happens to the Rarest of the Rare and can be treated with Capital punishment. (Personally I feel that cutting off their manhood would be better) BUT Death penalty is not the correct punishment for Rape. There is indirect international (specifically UN) pressure on India on humanitarian grounds to totally drop the idea of death penalty and in a country like India it is impossible to give death penalty on each rape case. Death Penalty, anyway, is too easy a punishment for rapists. They should be castrated and made impotent. Also the protest has gone off track now. The initial way of protesting by the means of street plays etc and WITHOUT A LEADER at the India gate was a great way! Aam aadmi party has added an unneeded political aspect to this. You CANNOT just think of barging into the national residence of the president like this. Despite all that has been happening there is decorum in the country that has to be maintained. God forbid, but any terrorist group can take this as an opportunity to bomb the crowds. Believe it or not, but the crowd now assembled has no idea what they want. A group from the crowd which was interviewed yesterday said they want Islamic and Arab laws here! A mass movement can only be a success without non-violence from the crowd. (Y)

Swear man. Even if she makes it thorough this, the mental trauma will be irreparable. And to think she was a medical student, so much hope. Her whole life brought to a brutal standstill. To merely think about it is painful.
