Hows the boyfriend who took her out for a movie' date=' i hope he doesnt have to live with the stigma as if it was his fault for taking her or getting on that bus[/quote'] Yeah, I am surprised there is absolutely no mention about him. But then again its good for him that media is not focusing on him.

He got beaten up himself and tried to fight to save her too according to what i have read/heard. Good that the media have left him alone. He is also the main person who gave Police most of the details leading to nabbing of the accused.

Yeah that's very perceptive. I am sick and tired of 50 % of people like you who think the most painful death for criminal will some how avenge for loss and magically India's perennial problem will be solved and this will become Scandinavia for men and women. You people are precisely the reason why we can never arrive at a solution and more women become victims. See what I did there. Everyone can play victim. But the situation demands introspection. For people to come together and understand where this is coming from. There is a mentality issue and there is law and order issue. In Punjab, the rape victim was raped in custody by cops. Yes . So let's firstly understand the reality of our situation.
I am just too worried that this bastard will be out there in three years getting a message that he got away not just raping a woman but also disemboweling her in such a brutal manner. This bastard will be out and no one has even seen his face.As a woman and as mother of a daughter,it scares the hell out of me and if even this monster is taken off the face of this earth,my world will be just a little bit safer. So no...this effing country will probably never be a safe place for women but we all know for sure that this monster if left to the law will be out in three years living somewhere close to his future victims ,driving children to school or working in some gym.

Instead of all these idiots in India (including men, women & politicians) mouthing off on women's dress up, how late they should leave home, how to play safe etc I wish there are more people who talk about passing law against men being out of their homes after a certain hour. Men should need special permit after passing character tests to be allowed out of homes- just like driver's license there should be restrictions on how some of them are allowed e.g. allowed after 7 PM with blindfold on their eyes because of inability to control perverted ogling, allowed with hands tied behind back because of inability to control groping, not allowed in groups etc In fact for all the Bharat mata, devi shakti etc etc that we have propagated through centuries- lets give total control to sensible women (not the idiotic ones who make it worse for their gender) for a few decades- only women in politics, in cinema, sports, corporate world, schools with a quota only for men who pass the eligibility tests. If this is an exaggeration it has only come to mind because of the shame that these men and the follow-up comments have brought upon my mindset.

And Frankly' date=' i am not getting what is the point of Ravishing Ravi's posts in the last page or so. [b']Or exactly what he is trying to say.
Pretty straightforward argument really, this whole issue is being held to ransom by feminists and apologists. For the record, I agree with the feminist point of view. However, as Ravi said, India is not ****ing Scandanavia where you can walk around half naked without anybody batting an eyelid - I believe thats the context he was alluding to when he said that women need to take some responsibility with respect to what they wear, where they go after dark etc etc Until attitudes change, accept the ground reality that Indian cities are unsafe **** holes for women and work within what is available.

For how long do we wait for ground realities to change? If laws had not changed...we would still be waiting for sati pratha to stop. We need changes in rape laws and also laws against the rape apologists for providing moral and social support to them. You can't have zero tolerance while waiting for society to change. If people think women should not express themselves freely...they are on the wrong side of this struggle.

^^ Law enforcement is also required... Corruption is the root cause... What's the point of having a law when the act continues because, for example, the private buses numbers are in the 'hafta diaries' of Police and are allowed to ply on the roads without and checks...

That's bullshit though. If everyone cows down and accepts "realities" then how the hell are things supposed to change? Someone has to challenge these realities and when more and more join in they'll start changing itself along with laws and implementation facilitating it. You know Gandhiji was thrown out of a train in South Africa ? He probably knew that it would happen, but that didn't mean he accepted it and walked to his destination. Irene Morgan, Sarah louise keys, claudette colvin and then finally Rosa Parks were told sometimes by law and sometimes by tradition to accept discrimination against blacks and also see the reality and quietly sit in the segregated section or take alternative transport. Else they'd be persecuted or even arrested in some cases. Yet they challenged the system along with others and look Obama is the president now. And though, everybody wants a Bhagat Singh in the neighbours house and not theirs, in this case the feminist are not even advocating fighting as much oppression as the guys above had too in their times.

The garments of the girl being the cause of rape is one of the most pointless arguments in this whole discussion and knowingly or otherwise, shifts the blame on to the victim. Most of the women who are raped are not clad in jeans/skirts. The majority of women in India still wear Sarees/Salwars yet bear the brunt of rapes just like the the small minority which wears skirts/jeans. I can relate to the advice of being pragmatic and not boarding private buses late at night - the points Aaku was making earlier in the thread. Though it is not ideal and the onus is on government to improve the law and order, it is still advisable to avoid travelling alone at night, which equally applies to men except the risk is of robbery/mugging instead of rape. But the way a woman is dressed has absolutely nothing to do with rape.

I was saying this for years now. Instead taking responsibility and accepting the truth, we keep saying that more security, more check ups stricter laws, death penalty etc. Would a death penalty stop men from misbehaving with women? absolutely no. They know they can get away with this easily. Rape happens not bcoz of sexual starvation, its becoz they want to dominate and show their superiority on women. How we gonna stop this? The well advanced country like America has the highest number of rape victims. Our culture was a great one before these feminists started believing themselves that they are equal to men. They started thinking that they can roam freely in nights, they can wear whatever they want... Practically its not possible in our society which has a chalta hai attitude. Especially in our culture where a hero in movie keeps on staking a women till she accepts her love. In western culture he would be called as a psycho. But here he is shown as a hero. Indian men idolizes their hero and keep stalking women an think themselves as movie stars. Its women's responsibility from getting away from these fools. If women also keep thinking herself as a movie heroine and wear dresses of their favorite heroines and movie stars, then, heroes are gonna come and stalk u. This is the fact. lol

From what I've read even in death the feckin gov troubled the family. The crematorium was selected by the government, the time was given by the gov etc etc. Seriously WTF? This was practically a state controlled funeral. How I mean the girl has passed away atleast now leave the family in peace. The gov even went so far as to insist that the girl was cremated before sunrise. How insensitive have our politicians become? And seriously why was she sent to Singapore? I now seriously believe that that all politicos in India have gone rogue. Notin short of a revolution will do.

The only thing worse than the loss of the brave girl in this incident, is that nobody, absolutely nobody has stepped up and claimed one bit of responsibility. That includes Politicians, Cops, Bus owner and the citizens. Yes that means YOU as well. Everybody seems to be outraged. Everybody seems to be pointing fingers at somebody. Everybody is good himself but collectively we saw a girl brutalized and killed. Clearly everybody is wrong. It is time for us as a nation to do some introspection.
