Italy's refusal to send back marines is unacceptable, says PM http://www.ndtv.com/article/cheat-sheet/italy-s-refusal-to-send-back-marines-is-unacceptable-says-pm-341314

Thiruvananthapuram: The Prime Minister has said that Italy's refusal to send back two marines charged with killing two Kerala fishermen at sea last year is "unacceptable." The Italians, who were in jail in Kerala, were permitted by the Supreme Court to spend four weeks at home to vote in national elections.
Must note - it's the SC who granted them leave not the government.

Whoever is responsible, it's alarming at the scant disregard shown towards human life. I can only imagine how the families of the fishermen would feel now. Same is the case with killings of TN fishermen. The italian govt is vouching for its criminals whereas the indian govt doesnt seem to care about their citizens being killed.

People blaming politicians' date=' this was completely the high court and supreme courts decision.[/quote'] Yes they made decsion alone. No political influence, after all our judiciary is totally independeant:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Seriously? Now murder under trials are allowed to go out of country and vote? This is just ridiculous from Supreme court. Italy seems so confident that nothing is going to happen as money seems to have exchanged to let them go out of the country.

May not be money that influenced it. Maybe sonia is italian, or just not wanting to upset foreign country, or to do with defence deals pending etc etc. Onr thing for sure is that this stinks.

It is supreme court that released them, not some subordinate courts that makes this case worse. Supreme court is relatively less corrupt and influential , they have acted tough against some of the recent corruption cases, which has at least helped bring some kind of trust in judiciary. To say supreme court has acted under the influence of Sonia is little hard to believe. As far as defense deals pending, Indians are buyers and it doesn't make sense for Italy to antagonize India as this will create a huge uproar in the media in coming days and India has to cut ties against Italy, at least for some time.

CBI in pocket of politicans as well. You are veeeeeeeeeeeery naive if you think supreme court is totally independant. Who inlfluenced court is unclear and what their agnda was is unclear. But no doubt something happened here

Also, just to note when it comes to Foreign Policy and International Diplomacy our Prime Minister has even made Sonia tow the line. This is just a case of bad judgment by the SC - after all these are the very same marines who returned to India after spending Christmas with their families.

The Supreme court being independent is a load of tosh. All these judges are very much capable of being influenced by the government. I dont think Sonia's italian heritage had anything to do with it. It was more of a case of the government capitulating under external pressure.

I will tell you what happens The government prosecutors press such a crappy case that within the confines of the law the courts hand is heavily influenced. If the government wants something to happen the best thing to do is present such a lousy case in court full of amateur mistakes that a good lawyer of the defense can make his client walk. This all started with Enron in Maharashtra. Chidambaram was able to win cause the government did not put up a fight. Same for Union Carbide. The bottomline in all of this is that somebody can commit a crime and get away with it if the government ensures that the lawyer representing them is crappy. Justice belongs to the higher bidder.

I agree, there is something more than it meets the eye. My guess is there may be some kind of black mail from Italy to expose some murky defense dealings.
