M S Dhoni wants openers to adapt to two-ball theory in ODIs

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today said that the new ODI rules may have a role in the continuous no-show of the openers but expects them to adapt to the changed regulations for the good of the struggling team. Now, two news balls are used from each end and the pacers are also allowed two bouncers in an over. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have failed to set a good platform for the middle order batsmen for some time and the latter was today replaced by young batsman Ajinkya Rahane for today's match against Pakistan. However, the script did not change with the replacement as India yet again struggled to negotiate the fiery fast bowling spell of the visitors. Dhoni said India badly needed its openers to do well with the England series just around the corner. "We have to be a little patient with the openers. The bowling was good and the pitch offered some help. Also with two new balls being used from both the ends, it may be a reason for them not doing well. But we want out openers to do well as we as a team rely on them," Dhoni said after India edged past Pakistan by 10 runs for a face-saving win. Asked about Sehwag's ouster from the side, Dhoni said it was last minute change to give those players a chance who were on the sidelines. Sehwag has also been dropped from the Indian squad for the first three matches of the five-ODI series against England, starting January 14. Dhoni credited the whole team for today's win and specifically praised the athletic fielding. "Victory makes you feel good. It was a team effort, fielding was good. We saved about 20 runs and its impact in the games, which are not high scoring, is huge. The fast bowlers gave us the breakthrough and then the spinners did well. Overall it was outstanding fielding, barring a catch that was dropped," he said.

I don't mind having dinda. He's still new and should be given a fair number of chances before being dumped. But' date=' Sharma(the talented one) is pathetic.[/quote'] I think Dinda should only play T20s. My problem with Dinda is even on these helpful pitches, he could not move the ball much. Neither he is express. These kind of bowlers always struggle. You need bowlers either who can move the ball at a decent pace like BK or Shami or either bowlers who can clock 90 mph at decent accuracy even if they move the ball less like Yadva or Aaron. Dinda is not much quicker than Shami or BK without the swing or seam.

Bishan Bedi questions Virender Sehwag's ouster from Indian ODI team

Former captain Bishan Singh Bedi questioned the axing of Virender Sehwag from the Indian squad for the home ODI series against England, starting January 14. "Is dropping only Sehwag the ansr to all ills of Ind crkt t'day? Admittedly V've exprts unlikly 2 Q bcci fr reasons not unknown-dedwud stays!!" Bedi tweeted. The national selectors today dropped Sehwag, who was struggling for quite some time, from the 15-member Indian squad for the first three matches of the five-ODI series while including in-form Cheteshwar Pujara. Just after India won the third and final ODI against Pakistan here, Bedi, however, had said that the team needed fresh legs. "Well done India-nearl messd it-all's well ends well-really?!Probs persist which can't b brushd under carpet-Ind need frsh legs sholdrs ideas," he wrote.

I agree RKT, but all I want to say is, let him be there for a bit longer. Every player should be given a fair run before dumping. We have already lost so many players. Maybe guys like Dinda, need a lot more backing before they eventually start performing.

I don;t get this. Till yesterday' date=' we wanted all non performers to be dropped. Now, when we drop one, that's a national issue. It's agreed that there are more to be dropped as well but let's hope that due course of action would be taken.[/quote'] Selection has to be transparent. That's the issue here. Not a hidden agenda. I would rather Gauti out and Sehwag in the squad. Gauti is technically flawed big time. Viru is a sharp slip fielder, can bowl off spin and get the team off to a flyer. He is out of form but I wouldn't drop him in this manner. Have him as 3rd opener/middle order bat. I am not convinced by Rahane as a limited over player. Said this for a while. He rose to prominence because of his 60 odd in T20i in England. But he seems like a better test player to me. So I am not happy with a youngster and crappy Gauti opening. Rather Rahane-Viru. Left right combo is over rated.

Greatest Indian bowler Bishan Singh (lowest bowling average in 50+ tests). He can say whatever he wants. :two_thumbs_up: Heard Harmeet Singh is the next Bishan Singh. English not even once not sure what he's saying but great player anyway.

I dont think BK, Shami and Ishant will be effective on flat tracks like they are on pitches with some assistance. But I would rather see them learning to bowl in flat conditions than having Vinay Kumar and Dinda who are 'LOI' specialists who struggle to pick wickets in helpful conditions. Wicket taking bowlers will always win matches in ODIs. About batting, there has to be one or two solid batsmen at the top who could stay at the wicket if wickets are falling. Too many hitters is not good. Pujara or Rahane should fit the bill as they should be able to play out good bowling spells because of their technique and temperament. They are capable of scoring at a brisk pace also.

Sehwag should be out of the team just because of his fitness alone. He is slow and will bring the whole fielding unit down. Also, his reflexes have slowed down considerably which account for the number of lbws and getting bowled recently. He is 34 already, will be 37 for next WC which means he wont be there. Shouldnt the team be looking forward ?

Who knows maybe Sehwag dropped himself? He was mentally not there' date=' he recently gave birth to a boy child. Maybe wants to spend time with family.[/quote'] So, why is Sehwag firing from the shoulders of his coach - 'BCCI, Dhoni have personal issues with Sehwag' Viru's coach AN Sharma fumes after his ward is not picked for the first three ODIs vs England Midday Link

to be fair' date=' GG-Viru both should have been dropped. Finn will make life hell for GG in the next series.[/quote'] To be fair whoever you bring will struggle if the pitches have some juice against top quality bowling.Shewag actually looked far better than gambhir in 2nd odi where he scored 30.We will struggle to bat if there is swing we always have except in the cb series finals where openers got to decent start and sachin played couple of gems. Shewag was not the only reason we lost ,so just dropping him and rest non performing players in the team with the same captain is crazy and we will lose to eng with this team if conditions are d same.

Is the game up for Virender Sehwag in the ODIs? One would be inclined to say yes after the Delhi dasher was dropped for the one-day series against England on Sunday. In the only change in the squad, Cheteshwar Pujara has come in for Sehwag. Apart from his patchy form - he has averaged just 23 in the past 11 matches - his age, fitness and fielding may deter the selectors from keeping him in the scheme of things in the short format. It is common knowledge that skipper MS Dhoni, a stickler for fitness in the short formats, isn't too impressed with Sehwag's fielding abilities. He had dubbed him "slow mover" and had rotated him along with Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar in Australia last year. With the focus slowly shifting to rebuilding the side for the 2015 World Cup, Sehwag, 34, will find it hard to make a comeback. More so if the new pair at the top grab its chances and establish itself. The only way he could force his way back is if openers continue to flounder, and he scores heavily at domestic and international levels. Dhoni explained his omission from Sunday's game as the last-minute change necessitated by the need to give youngster a chance in the dead rubber. Dropping him for England series, however, seems to be well thought out as the selectors had a long chat with him in the nets on the eve of the Delhi ODI. While Dhoni continuing as ODI skipper was on expected lines, especially after his good showing with the willow against Pakistan, Gambhir and Rohit Sharma should consider themselves lucky to keep their places.
