if RG is made the PM candidate then IMHO nothing Cong does from now on would be enough to save them in 2014. I think he would be so bad a choice that after seeing his name as the PM candidate, quite a few loyal Cong supporters would be forced to vote for the other side simply to remove even the remotest possibility that he ever comes near the PM's post. I will say this about the upcoming elections - it indeed would be bad for the country if the real choice comes down to Modi and RG.

I'm talking about your pessimistic act in general. When the results for the 4 states were coming out and BJP was leading everywhere, the whole time you tried to act like a pessimist as if Cong was just about to start winning or how C'garh would go to COng etc. Same happens when India is doing well in cricket - you start acting pessimistically about how the other team is just going to comeback or India is going to screw up :--D

Stopped at the first line, Congress doesn't make decisions about RG, it is other way around. RG will decide what he wants Congress to be and that becomes the verdict to defend for other party members.

Rahul Gandhi 'disagrees' with Congress govt for rejecting Adarsh probe report

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said he did not agree with the Maharashtra government’s decision to reject the probe report into the Adarsh scam. “They should reconsider that,” he said after meeting his party’s senior leaders and chief ministers at a strategy session. “No question of protecting anybody,” Gandhi said on the Adarsh housing society scam, in which some senior Congress leaders are under the scanner. This is the second instance of Gandhi jolting his party in this manner. In September, he had trashed a controversial ordinance designed to protect convicted lawmakers from disqualification, describing it as “complete nonsense”. After five days, the government had withdrawn the ordinance. On December 20, the Maharashtra government had rejected the probe report of a two-member judicial commission that had looked into the Adarsh scam. The report had come down heavily on Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and former chief minister Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar, both Congress leaders, for showing “undue haste” in allotting the Cuffe Parade plot to the society. The plot was allotted to Adarsh in 2004 when Shinde was CM and Patil Nilangekar was revenue minister in his Cabinet. “The commission is of the opinion that undue haste was shown by Patil Nilangekar in approval of grant of land to Adarsh CHS without authority. Shinde failed to pay due attention to the suggestion made by the finance department [which opposed the allotment]. The least we can say is that the entire issue smacks of undue haste and desire to bestow benefit to the society,” the commission remarked in its report. Shinde was CM from January 2003 to November 2004, while Patil Nilangekar was revenue minister from January 2003 to July 2004. When the file for land allotment went to the finance department for its nod in May 2004, it opposed the proposal stating that the policy on eligibility criteria of housing society members for such land allotments was being reviewed. Only 20 of the 71 proposed members of Adarsh society were eligible, it pointed out, suggesting that the government take the proposal to the state Cabinet if it still wanted to allot the land. The file was once again referred to the finance department in June 2004 and it reiterated its stand, which was approved by then finance minister Jayant Patil. The file was then sent to Patil Nilangekar, who ruled that 3,758.82 square metre land be allotted to Adarsh at a value of Rs. 10,19,19,652. This noting was also signed by Shinde, the report said. The approval for the letter of land allotment was subject to seven conditions, one of which was that the land be handed over after verifying the eligibility of at least 71 members. In his statement before the commission, Shinde argued that he did not approve the file immediately and insisted on verification of eligibility of 51 members. The right move was to have placed the proposal before Cabinet for approval, the commission said. It is surprising to find that the suggestion given by the finance department was ignored and Patil Nilangekar granted approval for allotment of land to Adarsh on July 2, 2004, which in turn was okayed by Shinde and the allotment letter issued on July 9, 2004, the report said. It pointed out that the initial letter of intent (indicating the government’s intent to give land) was issued before Shinde became CM.

Twitterati feels Milind Deora speaks, Rahul Gandhi follows

NEW DELHI: It may just be a coincidence but it set Twitter abuzz. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's disapproval of the Maharashtra government rejecting the Adarsh probe panel's report came close on the heels of Union minister Milind Deora's similar remark three days ago, and several people saw a pattern in it. It was the second time when Rahul expressed strong views on something which was first flagged by the Lok Sabha MP from Mumbai. It happened for the first time in September when Rahul trashed an ordinance cleared by the Union Cabinet to negate a Supreme Court judgment which provided for immediate disqualification of MPs and MLAs after conviction. Deora had spoken against it one day earlier. Though Deora called it "coincidental", Twitter was abuzz with people finding a pattern. Many tweets said the Congress had first decided something, Deora then spoke against it and Rahul finally put his stamp on it. The remarks and jokes around it on Twitter even saw an intervention by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. "If Milind speaks, can Rahul be far behind," she tweeted. Deora had on December 24 tweeted, "If the Adarsh committee report raises questions, we should investigate (agnostic of party or bureaucracy), answer them and not be hush!" As Rahul's disapproval of the Maharashtra government's decision came just three days after Deora's remark on Friday, bloggers instantly saw a pattern. Deora, however, tweeted, "Those of you speculating that I'm Congress party's newest weatherman, flattering and coincidental but not true." The young minister even quoted from American singer Bob Dylan's famous song in his tweet, saying, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows — Bob Dylan."
