coffee_rules
Nobody is interested here..I guess. Anyway, Tendulkar was named as a player in the World ODI team. Zaheer was named 12th man in the World Test team. Other than these two, no other Indian male was featured in any award in both winners and nominee list. Jhulan won the Women's Cricket player of the year award. So some relief there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ponting pips Pietersen for gong Ponting was named captain of the test and one-day teams of the year Australia's Ricky Ponting has been named ICC cricketer of the year, ahead of England's Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen was the only England player in the world one-day team of the year but Michael Vaughan was a surprise inclusion in the Test version. Ponting was also named captain of the year after leading his side to their third successive World Cup title. Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf was top Test player while Aussie Matthew Hayden took the one-day version. Aussie Shaun Tait was named top emerging player at the ICC Awards ceremony in Johannesburg, ahead of England's Ravi Bopara, Kiwi Ross Taylor and Saqibul Hasan of Bangladesh. India's Jhulan Goswami was named women's cricketer of the year, beating England's Claire Taylor to the gong. And Australia's Simon Taufel scooped the umpires award for the fourth successive year, with Mark Benson one of those to miss out. Donny
The Test team of the year lacks credibility. We see MV as the second best opener in the world but he only played 5 Tests and didn't open once. Alastair Cook, to name one of the other 20 eligible openers, played 13 Tests as an opener and scored 40 or more 12 times with 3 centuries. We also see Sanga as wicketkeeper and batting at 7 but he doesn't keep and bats at first drop. Given they think it's valid to select a player for a spot in which he doesn't play, why not put Punter as the other opener, move Sanga up to 3 and play Boucher (or whoever they think is the best keeper) at 7 ? That looks more like the Test team of the year. Link to comment
The Outsider
^ Very good points there, Donny. People seem to have been placed in random positions to come up with a test XI. Link to comment
