We should have a domestic tournament where only the best play

I think the length of Ranji trophy should be reduced and the best performers in Ranji should be formed as teams and a tournament should be played between them. I'm suggesting this because there is lots of mediocrity in our FC system and many batsmen and bowlers averages look inflated because of doing well against them. For instance, many batsmen in FC average 55 to 60 but there is no way these batsmen would average half of that if they played test cricket. A better way to judge the quality of these batsmen is to make them play against the best bowlers in FC in helpful conditions. This would help batsmen work on their technique and temperament. Same with bowlers. Make them bowl only against the best batsmen and then see how good they really are.

Zonal tournaments are already there. I too think that there should be much more zonal matches. This would improve the quality of domestic cricket in our country. Ranji trophy should be used only to identify talent and the number of matches should be reduced.

Something like the Duleep trophy but not necessarily having teams from regions like North, South etc. but forming best possible teams. Just having a lengthy Ranji trophy tournament where the quality of cricket is not good doesnt produce good test cricketers.

The problem with region based tournaments is many cricketers tend to get left out just because they dont fit into the zonal side. For instance, there could be several good bowlers from North or several good batsmen from West etc. but only some can play for their zone. If the regional mentality is kept aside, more of these bowlers or batsmen can play for other teams and they could actually prove they are good enough to play for national side.

:haha: Srinivasan and BCCI would rather have the tamasha league all year round and scrap four day cricket entirely. We Test fans (the minority) may hate the way our Test team has become the laughing stock of international cricket and hope for changes to the way FC cricket is structured but that doesn't concern BCCI in the slightest - the vast majority of the country would rather see some second rate slogger hit some third rate trundler for an XYZ maximum in some tamasha game that nobody remembers the next day.
