Jadeja did play the eng series.He was part of the last test.

And we didn't lose that :winky: Jaddu would have made the difference in the Mumbai Test where the pitch was a turner and India managed 326 batting first but our spinners couldn't do much. Jaddu's bowling style would have been perfect there - keep it tight on line & length and let the pitch do the work for you.

Huh? :blink: Please see in context to understand where I'm coming from. That was a response to CG who said "any captain will do good". On a serious note, Ojha was not the BEST bowler since sliced bread. Also, him being dropped was a team strategy. Further to which when he played he made little or no impact. The way this thread started was as if "OMG! Ojha dropped. Look he's the BEST bowler and he will perform better than Jadeja." He hasn't even performed better than Harbhajan in this series. Ojha is and will always be a supporting spinner,

But he was the best performer in the last series ... Even I have said many times that Ojha will never run through a side but dropping him for Bhajji cannot be explained by anyone. I can understand if he was replaced for someone with a better performance in the last year for team combination sake but Bhajji has been pathetic.

We made that pitch look much easier while bowling than what it should have been. We were too inconsistent and one bowler who could have kept it tight and bowled line & length could have made the difference. Pity we couldn't do the basics right in that series.

That is what everyone is criticising ... If they had dropped Kohli for say Raina in the first test saying team needs left handers, would that be ok?? Surely Kohli has batted well but he is not a match winner yet just like Ojha. Anyweyyz will continue this discussion tomorrow. Gotta go. Good Night.

More Lefties in the Aussies and in the end Harbhajjan was much better than Ojha IMO. I wouldn't have dropped him right after that England series though.

I am really amazed at the turnaround.U yourself admitted ojha should have been picked for bhajji but you had problem with op poin ashwin against ojha.

Bhaji wasn't good enough, simple as that and as ICF was going berserk over dropping Ojha who did not make much difference compared to Bhaji. Wasn't a bad gamble by any means.

That was not a flat track. that was a slow track with slow and Ojha is most effective when pitch is slow because his natural trajectory and pace is slow. Slower the pitch' date=' harder to face his bowling will be. He also has an advantage being left armer with so many right handers when ball turns away from the batsman. Flat track was in Irani trophy and he was thrashed.[/quote'] That was a flat track and he was getting genuine turn. He's a bigger turner of the ball than Jadeja and on average more than Ashwin. Have a look at his spell to Haddin in the 3rd test. Haddin was clueless against Ojha. That being said, for the series against South Africa, I'd pick Ashwin over Ojha because I think spin isn't going to be much of a factor and Ashwin is the better batsman.

The bigger question for me is, why did Ojha struggle so much last 2 tests after being the best bowler last series? Was it because he is out of rhythm not being in the playing XI?

7 wickets in 2 Tests @ 34 can hardly be deemed "struggling so much". Yes he wasn't the big wicket taker he has been in previous series but in at least 3 of the 4 innings, he bowled pretty damn well and was unlucky not to end up with more wickets. He beat the bat a fair bit and had to deal with a few drop catches or missed chances off his bowling. I think Indian fans need to realise that you need to persevere with spinners before they really take it to another level. They're not going to be destructive wicket takers every match (regardless of the wicket). In the end, Ojha didn't bowl badly and has bowled very well over the past year and a half.

They should have brought in another off spinner if left hand batsmen was such a big issue, and if it was not then Ojha should always have played ahead of Harbhajan. It's cricket. Ojha had a very good season overall. 1-2 average tests hardly mean that much.

Well Ojha did outbowl bhajji. More wickets. There was no flat wickets in this series. So point 2 is invalid.
