I guess I stand corrected. :cantstop: Well, I have no idea on the quality of Punjabi cinema, so can't comment on that.

With as much Punjabi as there is in mainstream Hindi movies' date=' do we really need a Punjabi movie industry :-)?[/quote'] Not sure if you mean the Punjabi language or the Punjabi people but I'll tackle both points. Movies in Punjabi are not a bad idea at all. There is a market for movies in the native language and the arts open up venues for creativity, hihglighting social issues, and basically improving/susutainging the language. Bollywood just has a few words of Punjabi in movies and at times do not really do justice. This can be used as a means of introducing the language to the others but hardly a means of improvement of the native language. As for the number of Punjabis in Bollywood, it's not a bad thing to have from a Punjabi perspective. Some of them can come back to Punjabi cinema and help it to improve whether it is the technical aspect or the artistic areas. A lot of Punjabis in yesteryears have been part of Bollywood but have not been hestistant to come back and give back to Punjabi cinemas. For example the Kapoors (Prithviraj in Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai), Mohammad Rafi has sung numerous Punjabi songs for Punjabi movies, the Puris, etc. These days, there are quite a few 2nd or 3rd gen Punjabis in Bollywood who have likely lost touch with Punjabi. While Punjabi Cinema has been making movies before the Partition, things slowed up in the 90's and the revival started back in the new millenium courtesy Gurdaas Maan and Harbhajan Maan. Right now, it's basically the Punjabi singers that have been moving into the movie domain and apart from a few movies, most of the movies are slapstick comedies which has been doing good business. This is the beginning of the revival and it will likely take a bit of time to stabalize. In the process, this has also opened up opportunites for collaboration with artists from West Punjab (Pakistan) wrt to lyricsts, singers like (Rahat FAK, Atif Aslam) ,etc. There have been a couple of offbeat Punjabi movies like Anne Ghore da daan which had won the National award.

neeru bajwa :nice:
Yeah Neeru Bajwa has cemente her place in Punjabi movies. She's the most sought after actress now considering how she's featured in almost every hit movie. Some people actually find it irritating that she's in so many movies now :haha:
