I don't see how this changes anything in the world. It's good that religion doesn't have power over the governments around the globe. CNN is such a stupid news channel. This story has been on CNN for at least 23 of the 24 hours a day for past three days or so. I wish there was a new channel that covered news around the nation.

"We know that our commander ascended to the heights and is face-to-face with Christ," Maduro said at a Caracas book fair. "Something influenced the choice of a South American pope, someone new arrived at Christ's side and said to him: 'Well, it seems to us South America's time has come.'" "He (Chavez) may also call a constitutional assembly in Heaven at any moment to change the (Catholic) church on Earth so the people, the pure people of Christ, may govern the world," Maduro added of his mentor.  Requirements to be a pope: Old. Check Senile. Check Delusional. Double Check

the Pope is going to be the religious head of over 1.5 billion people on Earth so whether you like it or not, it is a very big story.

Religious discussion- please close thread
not when they have a chance to make fun of religious leaders. Its only when religious discussions are happening that people here suddenly wake up and and close the thread.

No slight intended on my christian brothers and sisters of ICF, but you'd think after all of the sustained embarrassment stemming from the barrage of hideous sex scandals that have devastated the catholic church in the recent past, these guys will at least temper down their show-boating a little bit. Nope, not a chance. The show must go on.

I don't think anyone on ICF got offended. I just wrote that post because I don't think its right to make fun of people's beliefs just because you don't agree with them.

+1 I thought quite some disparaging comments were made in this thread. You can disagree whatever you want but the tone could be better.

Religious bashing is totally OK as long as "some" on this site join the fun. That has historically been the case. Why would you close a thread because of something your wrote? :winky:

I agree that it is not right in the private domain. However In the public domain, it is perfectly ok to make fun of people's beliefs. You can make fun of someone's political affiliation, musical choice, food habits, then why should religion get some sort of special respect? Literally believing stuff written in books which are centuries old and using that to justify bigotry against a group of humans (homosexuals, women) should be criticised

Any religion without showboating will be dead. :phehehe:

You can make fun of any mufti or pandit or any priest. Do you believe that making fun of a pandit = making fun of god ?
