Academics point to one of 'Hindu koh' or 'Hind-e-Kushan' ideas. This whole 'slaves dying by the thousands naming the mountain' is BS, since the name Hindu Kush is from pre-Ghazni/Ghori times. That is BS from commie historians. Like Wiki says, (before the arrival of ghaznavids) it was called Pariyatra Parvata. I mean why would a dharmic use persian to designate local landscapes? ( Unless the term was imposed on them - like "Hindu" was for instance) Are you a historian by any chance?

I asked you to post his qualifications, did you even look ? Your so-called 'commie historians' are correct in this, since western historians also happen to agree with your 'commie historians' on the origin of the name (Hindu Koh or Hind-e-Kushan). As for why did the name change, the Persians have always called it Hindu Koh/ Hind-e-Kushan and the region of Afghanistan that is south and east of the Hindu Kush was, prior to the Turkic expansion in the region, seen culturally & ethnically as Indian (Ie, Hindu, the ethnonym). The city of Zaranj was actually known as Sarang in middle Persian and the region of Drangiana ( where Helmand meets Hamun-e-helmand and creates a fertile inland delta) was known in Sassanid times as 'kuchak-e-hind' or 'little India'. The period from 100s BCE to 1100 CE has seen gradual turkification of Afghanistan and since the Turks were Iranized/Persianised in culture, the Persian demonyms took over the Sanskrit ones in Eastern Afghanistan area. It is one of my passions and i am semi-qualified in it.
