Islamic activists have attacked dozens of Hindu temples and homes across Bangladesh since an Islamist leader was sentenced to death last month, a Hindu group said Wednesday. The Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, an ISKCON-affiliated group that looks after Hindu temples, said 47 temples and at least 700 Hindu houses had been torched or vandalised since the verdict against Delwar Hossain Sayedee. Sayedee, vice-president of the country’s largest Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami, was sentenced to hang on February 28 for crimes committed during the 1971 liberation war. Kazal Debnath, vice-president of the Parishad, blamed the attacks on the Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir. “We also accuse the government, the police… of failing to protect the temples and our community,” he said. Home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir responded by saying that the government has taken “enough measures” to protect the minorities. The Jamaat has denied any role in the attacks, but foreign minister Dipu Moni said last week that Jamaat and Shibir attacked Hindu temples and houses in a “pre-planned manner”. On her part, Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Khaleda Zia, whose party is an ally of the Jamaat, condemned the attacks and demanded a “neutral” investigation.Animesh Sarkar, an ISKCON representative in Dhaka, said Hindus in Bangladesh fear that “things will get much worse in three months when the (Sayedee death) sentence is scheduled to be carried out”. Since India officially supported the recent secularist movement in a muslim country like Bangladesh thru Shahbag protest, this was kinda inevitable that minorities will get targeted more by muslim majorities there, as Islamic fandamentalists are now more in eager to show their fire power to terrorize common citizen. These religious clash happens nearly everyday in BD, its just these war crime case verdict issues fueling the rage against the hindus, creating opertunistic muslims disguised under political mob bash looting & killing them now.

I am glad that India is persuing alternative sources of energies such as Jatropha, solar power, methane hydrates etc. Anything to get out of the dependency for oil from the jaahil Arabs and then i hope India weilds full influence of trade sanctions, border closures and such against any country with fundamentalist islamist problems. On the other hand, India should fence the Bangladeshi border, wait for global warming to flood Bangla lands in another 50 years and depopulates the area. As long as we hold the frontier in that scenario, our one muslim padosi is dealt with.

Persecution of Hindus Thoroughly depressing but informative. Nothing can be done to change history and it's unfair to hold the current generation of muslims accountable for the attrocities of their ancestors, but we need to learn from it and make sure it never happens again. We have a frikkin mountain range named "hindu slaughter" to remind us of this holocaust, but sadly its never taught in schools like the way it should be. Both Germany and Israel teach their students about Nazi regime and its attrocities so that such things never happen again. If only our dhimmi govt had the foresight or the balls.

That is a bit of VHP propaganda, largely derived from the Pakis. Hindu Kush actually has several alternative (and better accepted) etymology than 'hindu killers', the most prominent being the mutation of the word 'koh' to 'kush' when used as a suffix in late Iranic languages (ie, Persian, Pashtun, Baloch, etc). Ie, Hindu Kush is simply a corruption of Hindu Koh, which means 'Hindu mountains'. Since Kabul, Qandahar eastwards were the Kabulshahi/Kushan/Maurya etc. period from 300s BC to 300s AD, this region was buddhist(predominantly during this period) and hindu(large minority to slim majority by 500s CE). Given that to the Persians and the Indians, 'hind-sindh' was a geographic depiction, the 'Hindu Koh' makes a lot of sense. The other theory is, the Hindu Kush were named after the Kushans, who were a nobility clan amongst the steppe nomads that settled down in the Bactria-Kabul region and ended up founding the Kushan Empire that dominated the subcontinent. This again, has good academic backing, as the only area of Hindu Kush range that does not have alternate names (eg: Koh-i-baba range, ie, the western portion of Hindu Kush range) , ie, 'hindu kush proper' is around Kabul to Chitral region, the core region of the Kushans. Thus 'Hindu Kush' could simply be the derivate of 'hind-e-kushan', ie, the literal location of the Kushan core. Lastly, the whole idea of 'hindu kush = kill/slaughter of the hindus' is a bit of a mistranslation that is found in Encyclopedia America, as the whole idea of 'hindu killer' is first mentioned by the Berber traveller Ibn Batuta, who mentions that the harsh terrain, war-like tribes and lawlessness of the Afghan mountains was the reason ti was consider the 'hindu killer', as the mountains literally were used in ancient times to demarcate India and Persia.

People who acted as barriers are slaughtered today in free modern day India, their Guru's gave life for Kashmiri Pandits. They have more freedom to practice their religion in Canada than their homeland India. You are brainwashed if you believe we Hindu's are saints. See the condition of minorities in India. Don't give me crap like they are richest community etc, they worked their a.s.s. off, like they are doing abroad. Indian machinery played no role. I just read about 40 Christians kids tortured in paper today, no thread here on ICF.

In the bilingual Arabic-French edition Voyages d'Ibn Battuta, texte arabe accompagn dÃÖne introduction, by C. Defremenery and Dr. B.R. Sanguinetti (1854, reprint by Editions Anthropos, Paris), on p.84, we find the Moroccan traveller's account: Another motive for our journey was fear of the snow, for in the middle of this route there is a mountain called Hind Kush, meaning Hindu-killer because many of the male and female slaves transported from India die in these mountains because of the violent cold and the quantity of snow. http://koenraadelst.blogspot.ca/2010/10/meaning-of-hindu-kush.html

Strange .. earlier you wrote about the benefits of a merger with bangladesh. This is what you wrote a 3 weeks ago here http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?p=2275819&highlight=Bangladesh#post2275819 :
Union with Bangladesh, as you said, comes with these negetive consequences. But what are the positive consequences? Lets examine: a) Bangladesh is extremely rich in water. Some would say, too rich- they get flooded every year in the rainy season. The total volume of freshwater passing through Bangladesh every minute is comparable to the volume of total freshwater passing through North America. By efficient management & diversion of these water resources (which are hampered by the diplomatic red tape between two sovereign nations), India can solve drought problems in the North & west while simultaneously solving the flood problem in Bangladesh. b) Chittagong is the best natural port in the Bay of Bengal north of Vishakapatnam and having Bangladesh join us would see an explosion in trade and GDP in the seven sister states, as sea access to trade would be massively improved. c) Merger with Bangladesh removes the problem of the most vulnerable & strategically important part of India- the chicken's neck corridor, which connects the seven sister states to rest of India via a narrow 50-60 km thick patch in Northern Bengal/Bihar. d) Massively reduces our BSF overhead, as a merger with Bangladesh massively reduces the total border length of India. Bangladesh-India border is over 4000 kms long, while the Bangladesh-Burma border (which would be the only addition to Indian border if Bangladesh merged with us) is less than 200 kms long.

What are the qualifications of this Mr Elst again ? Wiki 'hindu kush' and follow the links. Academics point to one of 'Hindu koh' or 'Hind-e-Kushan' ideas. This whole 'slaves dying by the thousands naming the mountain' is BS, since the name Hindu Kush is from pre-Ghazni/Ghori times.
