twww Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Compton is a shoe-in for the Ashes: if he loses form or gets injured I suspect they woul dmove Root up the order and bring in Morgan or Bairstow in the middlw order, or maybe even Butler. In the slightly longer-term I think Ballance is more likely to be a long term test player than Bairstow. Agree re Carberry- good to see hes recovered from his illness but doesn't have much chance of playing again.

He has preferred full season of IPL over County season even though his county and ECB wanted him to play the champs.Ruffled a few feathers there. Ballance is finally getting the nods that matter.
Straight Drive Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Essex won the toss and opted to bat first. Cook and Westley open the innings for Essex. Jimmy who did okay in previous match is not playing this match. Veteran Chapple shares the new ball with Kyle Hogg.
Straight Drive Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 How's the pitch? Seems like a toughie. Came to know from my Lancashire buddies that the weather is cloudy over there. Maybe that explains the fall of wickets on day 1, until Napier came to rescue and eventually posted first innings total of 220 odd.Lancs top order has collapsed today on day 2 being 51/4. katich is at the crease so Lans have hope. Cloudy day , slight rainfall expected today and tomorrow. Could help for a draw.

Not sure I agree with you there- but it is a shame he has decided to play in the IPL rather than put himself in contention for the NZ series. He can be a devastating batsman at any level, and is still comparatively young. Agree re Ballance- I have only seen glimpses but he looks quality. Also saw James Taylor bat very well yesterday in a one-dayer: he has fallen down the pecking order but is another option, and one of the best fielders in the county game. Fine player of spin, maybe needs to work on his back foot game against pace a bit, but is still very young.

Precambrian Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 :hysterical: For people who de-value Jadeja's 3 300s, this is the standard of county cricket.
