India finds itself in bit of a conundrum. Pakistani players are banned or not bought cause of political issues. Sri lanka players are bought despite political issues.

I don't remember them calling fascists
So why are you pleased that they will not be allowed to play. What's next - exclude Australian cricketers because of the odd racist attacks on Indians in Australia?

When the war was on and the Tamils were getting slaughtered in 2008-09, how come Jayalalitha had no problems in letting Sri Lankan players play in Chennai? A purely political move which reeks of hypocrisy and opportunism. And BTW why did Jayalalitha not oppose Pakistanis to play an ODI at Chennai?

Killing innocent Tamil fishermen? When did that happen? And what's the relevance of the ethnicity or the state of the fishermen? The ones being troubled are Indian fishermen.
Not sure what u trying to get to.? Fact is out fisherman has been shooter down by Srl army for years . Yet we haven't seen even a whisper of a protest from the central govt.

Many Indian fishermen are in Pakistani prisons - why did Jayalalitha not protest when Pakistan was playing in Chennai 2 months back? Why did the Chennai crowd give a standing ovation to Pakistani cricketers in '99 and feels proud of it? Because the fishermen in Pakistani prisons are not Tamil? By the way can you let me know when Sri Lankan army has killed fishermen?

BG please don't make false accusations sir...Look at the way India diplomatically fought against Italy to bring those two Italian marines for allegedly killing two fishermen.Do you seriously think our navy got away killing TN fishermen for years??

I don't think our fisherman getting killed by army of another country for nearly 15-20 years is an odd incident. I am happy becuase now this issue along with the Srl refugees are being heard in the national platform and my state govt is trying to force the central govt to take a tough stand on this

Because then there wasn't a students movement like the one going currently. True but doesn't mean it isn't a good decision Same reason why I haven't seen any other state protest the participation of Srl players in IPL

If the Sri Lankan army has been regularly slaughtering fishermen surely there must be media reports of it. Can you point me to some?

From what i know the sri lankan navy have destroyed boats etc. It also remains a tamil v tamil issue. Clearly fisherman on the other side are also tamil's although they are sri lankan tamils.

SL's history with local tamils is not great either.

The issue is not LTTE, rather it is regarding the slaughter of civilians towards the end of the war and the firing against Indian fisherman. Why do Indians care? Same reason why the UN cares. Why do Indian Tamilians care sooo much you ask. Cause when you are of the same origin, the affinity is more. When you share something in common there is bound to be an emotional tie in. Why did we not care when Paks played here? Probably for the same reason why people in Mumbai are more charged against Paks than the rest of the country. When you are further away from the atrocities, both by proximity and by connection, they seem less important.

At least people from Bombay care about their own countrymen unlike this bunch who gives standing ovations to Pakistanis and cares more about people from another country but same ethnicity. And who says the issue is not LTTE? Weren't there protests against the hanging of Rajiv Gandhi's killers? EDIT: Not only were there protests against the hanging of Rajiv Gandhi's killers the legislature passed a resolution against it.

Now you are stooping low. Giving standing ovation to a player's performance has more to do with their on field performance, has nothing to do with their country of origin.

There are different segments of society. Yes the DMK and it's supporters are pro-LTTE as well, but has not been the position of current govt and the people in general.
