The Outsider Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Now you are stooping low. Giving standing ovation to a player's performance has more to do with their on field performance, has nothing to do with their country of origin. What wrong have Kulasekara and Dhananjaya done if it's about the players. There are different segments of society. Yes the DMK and it's supporters are pro-LTTE as well, but has not been the position of current govt and the people in general. Dude, the Tamil Nadu assembly passed a resolution unanimously to seek mercy for Rajiv Gandhi's assassins.
yoda Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 What wrong have Kulasekara and Dhananjaya done if it's about the players. It is about the players once they are on the field, it is politics before they are allowed to play. I am not sure I agree with this decision to not let these players play, but if it will force the SL govt to act more responsibly going forward, it may be worth it. Anyways, I would be more concerned if Murali was still with us. :P Dude, the Tamil Nadu assembly passed a resolution unanimously to seek mercy for Rajiv Gandhi's assassins. I believe it was pressure from DMK. Jaya and co. have always been anti LTTE. I am not sure what made her make a concession on this issue. "Despite pleas by many to the Tamil Nadu government to pass a Cabinet resolution to recommend to the Governor to commute their sentences, no steps have been taken. At least the Centre should do so. I urge the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson to do the needful,'' Karunanidhi said. The statement issued by the DMK chief is the latest in a series of steps taken by various stakeholders in Tamil Nadu to exert pressure on the Manmohan Singh government to save the three convicts from going to the gallows. In August, the state assembly had passed a resolution demanding that the three killers of the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi should not be hanged. Their execution was to take place on September 9, but was stayed by the Chennai High Court for eight weeks on the same day.
The Outsider Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 it's about the players once they are on the field. it is politics before they are allowed to play. Convenient demarcation, nothing more. I believe it was pressure from DMK. Jaya and co. have always been anti LTTE. I am not sure what made her make a concession on this issue. Hang on. A party with 30 seats in a 250 member assembly can pressure a party with 200 seats to pass a unanimous resolution against the will of the 200 seat party?
saneindian Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 The issue is not LTTE' date= rather it is regarding the slaughter of civilians towards the end of the war and the firing against Indian fisherman. Thats where the entire hypocrisy is. When the innocents were actually being slaughtered in 2008-09, we happily allowed Lankan cricketers to play in the IPL and at Chennai. Why were there no protests back then? Why did the political parties not raise the matter the way they are doing now? All this is nothing more than a political drama and nothing else.

Like I said, if you look at the history of Jaya and co, they have always been anti LTTE. There is a clear distinction for many between LTTE and innocent Tamils. This resolution was a regrettable move.

There is more outrage now as the details of innocent civilian deaths are being made public.
Crookbond Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Yoda, I understand the emotional tie to your community but at some point of time you do realize they are not your country fellows do you?
trundlerNO1 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 PR exercise by TN government, it will fail for sure
yoda Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Yoda' date=' I understand the emotional tie to your community but at some point of time you do realize they are not your country fellows do you?[/quote'] Country is not being sacrificed here, so there is no conflict. Also, there is a country issue as well regarding firing against fishermen. There will always be anti SL sentiment in TN as long as tamils in SL aren't being treated as equal citizens. Expect this to go on.
South_Paw Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 This is all the work of some Anti-social elements who just are creating spark among the students and making it as means to create mutiny in the nation. The student protest which started as the one for seeking justice for the Srilankan Tamils, very soon became the one that demanded Seperate state for Srilankan Tamils in Sri Lanka. That later became the one demanding Tamil Nadu to be declared as a seperate nation itself. Now, Jaya too wanted to do something on her behalf and has sent this letter to PM
Sidhoni Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Won't the Lankan players of other teams play in Chennai?

We are discussing the merits of the events which "are happening". Now, as far as country sacrifice goes - let me remind you that your fellow country tamils have far more important problems than SL tamils plus the TN government is influencing domestic policy using the SL Tamil issue as an alibi. So, indeed it is affecting the country.
South_Paw Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 No one ever made this kind of mass protests against the killing of fisherman. I dont understand how people were able to tolerate the killing of their fellow citizens when they are unable to bare the killings of Srilankan Tamils.

Everyone wants some action which is only avialable in this Srilankan Tamil issue. hell lot of Local problems are piled here by which almost more than half of Tamil Nadu is being affected.

cowboysfan Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 the precedent has already been set for state governments bullying foteign nationals long before this.
BeautifulGame Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 If the Sri Lankan army has been regularly slaughtering fishermen surely there must be media reports of it. Can you point me to some? http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/tn-fishermen-injured-in-attack-at-sea/article4180931.ece http://newindianexpress.com/states/tamil_nadu/article1509489.ece?pageNumber=1&parentId=52616&operation=complaint http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-08-18/madurai/33260802_1_international-maritime-boundary-line-indian-fishermen-imbl http://www.rediff.com/news/slide-show/slide-show-1-tn-fishermen-vs-sl-navy-encounters-of-worst-kind/20110218.htm http://www.hindustantimes.com/audio-news-video/AV-India/Sri-Lankan-Navy-s-attack-on-Indian-fishermen-continue/Article2-1023876.aspx
Square Drive Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 +1 and Nuwan's new weapon..Back of the hand full toss :two_thumbs_up: full toss? :cantstop: because jayalalitha loves kamran akmal. :hysterical::hysterical: This is probably a BCCI's attempt to drag more attention from SL fans for this year's IPL. Just a media stunt. Everything will be fine in the end. But meh.. I'm not gonna watch single match.. yeah single match :beee:
BeautifulGame Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 At least people from Bombay care about their own countrymen unlike this bunch who gives standing ovations to Pakistanis and cares more about people from another country but same ethnicity. And who says the issue is not LTTE? Weren't there protests against the hanging of Rajiv Gandhi's killers? EDIT: Not only were there protests against the hanging of Rajiv Gandhi's killers the legislature passed a resolution against it. Well applying this stupid logic why did the Mumbaikars gave Malinga a rising ovation during world cup final? Dont they care for Indian fisherman dying in the srilankan border?
