I find funny instances in my life where my indian colleagues try to define me in a particular typical tamil guy type cast and are often caught unawares when they end up meeting me in person. You could say that i am over reacting and type casting my self but lets just say i have seen enough instances to induce a doubt.

Everyone community, be it regional or religious has a stereotype, which is often unwittingly perpetuated by our media and our entertainment industry. But at the end of the day, they are just that- stereotypes. That doesn't mean that people look down upon Tamilians or who ever because of skin colour. Also people are not really that stupid to believe stereotypes and all the * enter community name* jokes are only when that particular person is not present. We (as a nation) are a very docile set of people, we would never make those jokes in front of the same person.

You see a society like what india is currently clearly has misplaced priorities and loads of hypocrisy which i think will be its downfall. I dont feel superior since i do not look like a typical tamil, as a matter of fact i could have made a more convincing argument in person if i had been otherwise, that all that is type casted about tamils is plain wrong. You are probably a educated, articulate person who knows the pitfalls of regional jingoism but not all are, just drop in on any of the comments section of articles in leading indian news publications, you might find some of the comments disagreeing with you.

He meant the Tamils in Sri Lanka. How are they not citizens of a different country? Why should we go against and intefer in the policies of a neighbor country particularly when it will play into the hands of china and Pakistan and make us weaker?

What pisses me off is the rampant use of this, and the hatred that flows from it , so much so that people are blinded even when there are good reasons and truth behind some of the issues. Tamil genocide in sl is happening to srilankan tamils who are not Indians agreed and tamils from tamil nadu are emotionally involved in this because of shared heritage ( Hindu temples and history there is literature predating middle kingdoms that sing praise of kandy kathirgamar for instance ), but shouldn't the Hindu India be equally involved in it ? even if you see it from a micro scale of religious affinities, and shouldn't the democratic india be involved in the well being of the hapless tamils, its against our fundamental values. And please dont give the subramaniam swamy bs angle of kashmir to this, cause there is no parallel or comparison, kashmiries killed and evicted pandits , their king ceded to india india has sovereign right on kashmir, but still india is not involved in genocide in Kashmir.
