Crookbond Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Intercaste marriages have a lot of social benefits but fostering religious tolerance isnt one of them Sure - but I meant we need to take one step at a time. Currently, inter-caste marriages themselves are frowned upon.

Much of it is spread by indoctrination and brainwashing at a much earlier age than when a person is exposed to opposing viewpoints from his peers or on the internet. Once the idea of a supreme being is formed in an innocent mind who is convinced about going to hell if God is displeased, it takes years of open and free discussion to wean him/her from the idea of a supernatural entity. And such an environment is not available in most countries few places in the west (USA mainly which ironically is also quite religious). In most other places, religion is accorded a preeminent position where its fundamental followers automatically assume the right to be offended and hold the state to ransom. Unfortunately civil society provides it to them. If religion has to rendered irrelevant, the indoctrination has to be stopped, inter religious marriages should be encouraged and children must interact with people from other countries and cultures. By your logic Russia and China should have been fully Atheist by now as communists radically promoted Atheism.But it is not true. Russia is emerging as quite orthodox christian country.Even Russian who don't believe in god have been baptised because they belive it is part of their Russian culture.I read an article in which it was mentioned that there was craze in young Russians to get them baptised when Religious restriction were relaxed in Soviet.They find it cool to be baptised while their grandparents remained strict atheists because of of communist revolution .

Though I don't see a reason in discouraging such marriages as well. Same-caste marriages have their own advantages and there is no reason they should be looked down. Don't promote a social change just for the heck of it. Let society evolve is an organic manner and decide what is best for it. No need to make an attempt in forcing ideas.

Forget inter caste, we first have to cross the barrier of sub castes within the same caste.

I said "if someone wants to have an inter-caste marriage, let him/her do so". Where is the "force" in this?

Who said that they have perfect laws ? I would actually cry if I ever have to see someone eat an elephant but if an animal isnt endangered then it should be ok to consume. I just dont understand why eating a chicken is humane and eating a dog/beef isnt, yes there can be personal preferences and I wouldnt eat a lot animals myself but that doesnt mean that if someone does then he is gross
