Plus, G_B ... we can rest players by rotating them and not by resting them. We can figure out the lesser important games and rest 1-2 key players and in some other such games rest 1-2 other such players.

If sri lanka does not care, should we also not care?? Forget the tournament, these are International matches?? Is it ok for India to again lose from Bangladesh like last time??? Plus how many ODI series have we won against South Africa in South Africa??? Isn't that you would want India to accomplish or ODIs are irrevalent to you. We can indeed rest players for ODIs against Aussies in India and against NZ in Kiwiland. Guess, you are one of those IPL fans speaking out against ODIs.
You are clueless, winning a game on a flat pitch v Bang/Pak does nothing to improve our players, this is the tournament where we should be trying out young players and those who perform in IPL and show promise. ODI's v Aus are where you will be judged, improve and remembered for good performances, no one cares who won the Asia cup 5 yrs back

atleast tendulkar bhai agrees with me....the asia cup is a **** tournament man. I would give it the least priority and blood young players in to see what they can do. The jist is we need rotation. The way i see it MSD especially needs rest for some of these meaningless ODIs. In a sense its a good thing Che is a test player only at the moment. But the bowlers especially need rest and rotation. I am talking about guys like Bhuvi Umesh etc. In the 7 ODIs at home v Aus Raina can be captain and we can try out players like Tiwary etc. MSD, Kohli, Bhuvi and Umesh i think are the players in all three format of the game. (maybe not umesh). These guys need to be rested at regular intervals. Dhawan might make it to all three if he bats well in the champions trophy. In that series v NZ , South africa played Steyn and Morkel alternatively.

This is the attitude why we don't see cricket in Asian Games, or Commonwealth Games or Olympics. We don't even care about being the best in Asia. Tell me do you remember any other game from the last IND-AUS bilateral series in India other than the one where Sachin scored 175?? But most of here will have remembered the Asia Cup defeat against Bangladesh last year. We all remember VK thrashing Pakistan in Asia Cup. Five years down the line we can could say that we have the most Asia cup titles but if we don't care then that will go to Pakistan. This is the reason, India used to lose so many Finals when Ganguly was the captain. No one cares about multi nation events. But yes, you will care more about meaningless 7 match ODIs against Australia. And let me guess, Cricket is the only sport you watch, right?? Cause anyone who knows anything about any other sports would know the importance of multi nation events.

But we have multi nation events like WC's, Champions Trophy, Tri-Series, the Asia cup is simply India v Pakistan and Pakistan are a poor ODI team especially when playing v us. I dont believe we should play 7 ODI v Australia, but a 3-5 match series is a greater TEST and benefits us more when playing other teams. Back in the day the Asia cup produced many nail biting matches in Sharjah but that is when we were not as good as we were now, Ganguly made us competitive abroad and took us away from this win at home mentality. Shock defeats in 1 LOI will always occur and as I said no one cares about these v losing v SA or Au which hurts more. And how does Asia cup help the sport get into the Olympics?? It doesnt. We have always been the best in Asia and this gets reinforced when we do stuff teams like Pakistan only dream of..winning abroad!

But its a tournament with a history which has over the years produced some great contests and no its not just India vs Pakistan ... Its more like India vs Sri Lanka with India winning it 5 times and Sri Lanka 4 ttimes. Pakistan have won it just twice including the one last year. The standard of Cricket has depleted due to the fall in standards of Asian teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This will change in the future with better teams coming out of those countries and then this will be considered as an important event where india wouldn't have won much because we never cared much, not that we were shyte. Its a tournament that will stay in the history books and like any tournament, we should value it properly. Did Australia gave more importance to Ashes than an Indian series back in 60s and 70s, Yes ... But still they ensured that they beat us. They didn't say, its a useless test series and let us throw bad players and practice for Ashes. Same thing the Great WI side did. They beat anyone and everyone whom they faced comprehensibly. We have to make sure that even if we rest some players, we do not lose focus of winning every series that we participate in. Else its better to just skip the event. Remember last Asian games in China, I guess. The BCCI refused to send a team ... this kind of lacklustre attitude to events not featuring big teams and big players results in Cricket not getting a place in Asian Games or Olympics because the organisers and the IOA will have no assurance that top players will participate.

hmm in the olympics' date=' you need under 25 players i think similar to football.[/quote'] Not really, that is just a specific rule for Football. Cricket has never been part of Olympics, so we don't know yet. Seniors play hockey, tennis, handball, volleyball and most other games. And then again, even in Football 3 players greater than 23 can play in each side so that big stars can play which will ensure viewer interest is not declined.

Just because it has history does not mean you stick to it, times changes you have to progress with it and as I said we have improved over the years and in the league of SA/Aus rather than SL+Pak who are the bottom of the test playing teams. No Australia didnt give more importance to us than the Ashes in the 70's (when we were useless) but now do as beating us is a bigger achievement, even LEE has said that the series v India are now on par with the Ashes in a thread started today! And the reason for the age limit in football would also apply if cricket was in the Olympics. It was as football has an established world wide international league (JUST LIKE CRICKET) and they did not want the Olympics to be competing with the world cup AND by have a 23yr old age limit it gives smaller teams more of a chance as the established players wouldnt dominate. Again your argument that somehow INDIA taking the Asia cup seriously helps cricket get into the Olympics is nonsensical. It is only a matter of time before this cup gets cancelled...mark my words.

Then better drop out of the Asia cup instead of just participating and losing. If you want India to lose against Pakistan, and Bangladesh by fielding a weak side, I say something is wrong with you. I cannot give a better argument than this and if you are not satisfied, I surrender.

Its not about it being a "weak team" but a team full of potential, youngsters and those who are on the brink of the 1st team and a team which can win. If they lose the odd match so what? We are much stronger than SL/Pak and our 2nd team is probably on par with them in ODI's. Plus Us playing Asia cup is not related to the Olympics full stop.

India might re-visit New Zealand in 2014-15 to compensate for shortened tour

Wellington is poised to host two of New Zealand's five home cricket tests this summer whilst Auckland is in danger of heading back to the test wilderness. New Zealand Cricket has drawn up a draft schedule for 2013-2014, when West Indies and India will be the Black Caps' opponents from December till February. It is understood the Basin Reserve is pencilled in to host one of the three West Indies tests, in mid-December, and one of two India tests in early February. New Zealand's three premier test venues, Dunedin's University Oval, the Basin, and Hamilton's Seddon Park, in that order, are in line to host West Indies tests during December. The Basin remains NZC's flagship test venue so will be allocated an India test as well, with Hamilton currently shading Auckland in a tight race to host the other test. Eden Park hosted Auckland's first cricket test in seven years in March, a cracking contest against England which went down to the final ball. But this was outweighed by the disappointing crowds which were well below what NZC hoped for, having gone to the country's largest sporting arena which is expensive to hire. It drew 38,400 punters over five days, including a big chunk of travelling supporters. The biggest let-down was the 8,800 turnout on the Saturday when New Zealand were 250-1 overnight and the sun shone. Similar sized crowds would fill the Basin and Seddon Park, both far more test-friendly venues. Eden Park will likely host a Boxing Day one-day international against West Indies, the tour-ending Twenty20 match in mid-January and an India one-day international. Napier's McLean Park also looks to be mothballed as a test venue but should get one of the five ODIs against West Indies in the Christmas-New Year period. NZC hoped to announce the summer schedule by now, but India's tour continues to be troublesome. The all-powerful Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was reluctant to fulfil its requirements of three tests, five ODIs and one T20, as agreed under the ICC's future tours programme, because it clashed with the Asia Cup starting on February 24. A compromise was reached with NZC of two tests, two ODIs and two T20s, scheduled to start in the final week of January after India's tour of South Africa. NZC remains in negotiations with the BCCI over India potentially returning in 2014-15 to play the remaining test and three ODIs. This would appease broadcasting rights holders and possibly avert NZC from pursuing the BCCI for financial compensation for what is the most lucrative inbound tour. NZC chief executive David White confirmed India would embark on a shortened tour. "There's every indication...but what the discussions are about is making up the difference at a future period of time," White said. "We will be having a tour but the final format of that tour is still being decided. It will be significant and on top of the West Indies tour we've got a lot of cricket next year." The domestic Twenty20 competition is expected to follow a similar format to last summer, with Friday night matches on Sky Television in November and December, and finals in mid-January in a two-week window between the West Indies and India tours.

Most likely that they will cut down a couple of ODIs from SA tour to add another week between SA and NZ tours. Or to show who is the boss, just cancel the SA tour altogether.

Hope they play split tests and limited over matches like Australia does to us and play tests in this tour and LOIs in the next leg, without cancelling any match. That will suit everyone.

WIll free up about 8 days in the itinerary. ADvance the test dates by a week and we will have an extra week between SA and NZ tours.

BCCI wants 2 tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20s for the South Africa tour as a way to protest Lorgat's appointment

Not talking about SA tour here. Aren't we discussing NZ tour: NZC remains in negotiations with the BCCI over India potentially returning in 2014-15 to play the remaining test and three ODIs. So if we play tests in 2014 and LOIs in 2015 or vice versa, it can be fair enough, no?
