NZ tour on, India face non-stop nine months of cricket

The Indian cricket team will have its hands full with non-stop cricket for nearly nine months, starting this December, which hardly leaves them with any time away from the game. After months of uncertainty, the tour to New Zealand next year is back on track, leaving virtually no rest period for MS Dhoni's men. CNN-IBN has learnt that after prolonged negotiations between the respective cricket boards ended months of uncertainty with the emergence of a small window of a little over three weeks that allows New Zealand to host India early in 2014. Highly informed sources close to the development said that the Indian team will be in New Zealand for 24 days after the conclusion of their tour to South Africa. CNN-IBN understands that New Zealand will host India from January 29 to February 22. The teams will face each other in two Tests, three ODIs and one T20 international, the dates for which will be announced shortly. While the tour is expected to boost revenues for the New Zealand cricket board by means of TV rights, the packed itinerary for India is cause for concern keeping in mind player fatigue. India's tour to South Africa stretches from the first week of December 2013 to January 22, 2014 after which the team will travel to New Zealand. Next on the itinerary is a flight to Bangladesh for the Asia Cup that starts on February 26, just four days after the completion of the tour to New Zealand. The Asia Cup is expected to conclude on March 9, and is immediately followed by the ICC World Twenty20 which will be held from March 16 to April 6. The players return to India, just in time for the seventh season of the IPL that starts right after, and is expected to continue till the final week of May. And the packed calendar will then see the Indian team off on a long tour to England. While Indian cricketers haven't really raised the stink on the amount of cricket they play these days, it remains to be seen how they handle this packed nine-month schedule both physically and mentally.

Three test series in India becomes 2 tests ... Now 3 tests in New Zealand becomes 2. We are losing out on lots of ODIs ... had 5 scheduled against the kiwis and now its down to 3. New Zealand meanwhile have played 5 ODIs and 5 tests in India since India last toured the Island nation. This is ridiculous, stealing the best source of revenue from the small nation and giving 5 match test series to England. :protest:

India need to ensure that the key players are rested. To be frank we can try out many players for eg in the ODIs. New players. Especially in **** competitions like the Asia cup.

Asia Cup is no **** competition. We need to give importance to such multi nation events more than we give to Bilateral series. We can rest players from ODIs against Australia later this year to try out new players and then we can rest some guys from the ODIs in New Zealand.

Would be interesting to hear FICA's response if Indian players pull out of NZ tour due to heavy workload. BCCI would still be called a bully for terrorizing poor New Zealand.

Its a lame tournament dude. and for the record, i do hope we rest players in the ODIs in SA and Nz as well are try out the fringe players.

If sri lanka does not care, should we also not care?? Forget the tournament, these are International matches?? Is it ok for India to again lose from Bangladesh like last time??? We can indeed rest players for ODIs against Aussies in India and against NZ in Kiwiland. Guess, you are one of those IPL fans speaking out against ODIs.

Its an issue about priorities. I am not saying we lose the matches on purpose. However even south africa, rested kallis for the recent odi series v NZ. England have rested KP for a segment of their series v NZ. Everybody does it. People like MSD cannot go on playing all the games. We need to give KKD a proper run out and rest him. Its been done before but MSD has missed test matches . For me its a cardinal sin to miss one of those. Rather we should be resting MSD for meaningless ODI series v SA. lastly stop judging. You could have said that and I would not have judged, instead you called Asia Cup as a lame tournament. To be crowned best in Asia is Lame??? Saffers rested Kallis against Kiwis at home ... They have won against Kiwis too many times. KP was not rested, he got injured in the 2nd test. People like MSD cannot go on playing, I agree and hence I gave options of resting them in ODI series against Kiwis where we won in 2009 ... against Australia in October where we will play 7 meaningless ODIs. Not in Asia Cup or IN South Africa where we will be out chasing our first Series Win.
