And when is it too much or for that matter too little? And then whom should be the benefit user, how are the groups selected? Are there any alternatives to this system? What's the future implications of this?

Commenting on the functioning of current crop of MPs, Gandhi said most of them neglected their constituencies whereas in advanced countries, representatives of the people made every effort to be in constant touch with the electorate. The Pilibhit MP said giving maximum time to his constituency was one of his top priorities in order to address the grievances of the people. On the recent violation of ceasefire along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir in which an Indian soldier was beheaded and another shot dead by Pakistan troops, Gandhi said the issue would have found greater prominence in any other country. zumi Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 they have had positives (I know of several communities who have uplifted themselves from poverty and now run big industries) but there have been some moronic policies too. for instance many public institutions have retarded rules that you can't study for diploma or bachelors if they are older then 20 years old, but the rule doesn't apply to some from SC/ST or Northeast region. anyways many reservations based on religion quotas only end up hurting the group they are meant to protect, as so many will claim to be converts to gain benefits whilst real people get left behind.
PriyankaSR Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Reservation was initiated with a good intention. But now, it has totally shifted its track and become a tool for politics. After seeing so many articles, hearing opinions, participating in debates many many times on this particular topic, I have built an opinion that to cure this disease of poverty and under-development we need to provide the appropriate facilities at the grass-root level or never in a country like India (with its dirty politics), will development of the under-developed take place. Reservation is just taken advantage of by the politicians in today's day and age. We need to understand that just by scoring a 60% and taking the place of the obviously more deserving candidate from the general class, we might be slowly nullifying the development and growth of the country and if a country is not growing, neither will its citizens, be it the general class or the umpteen "lower classes." I just want to say that we need to hone up their skills at an individual or at least at a societal level and build their aptitude and then let them compete. Fair and Square.
