saneindian Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Maharashtra batsman Vijay Zol has been named captain of the India Under-19 squad for the Tri-nation Under-19 Tournament in Australia, which will begin on June 30. Zol and Mumbai batsman Akhil Herwadkar are the only two players in the squad who were a part of the squad at the U-19 World Cup last year, which India won. Zol hit the headlines when he scored an unbeaten 451 during a domestic U-19 match in 2011. During the U-19 World Cup, Zol scored 151 runs in six matches at an average of 25.16. He has scored 272 runs in seven List A matches at an average of 36. Kerala wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who was part of the Under-19 team for the Asia Cup in 2012, also made the squad. He had had a good domestic season in the limited-overs format, scoring 222 runs in seven games at an average of 37.00 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and then doing well in the IPL with 206 runs in 11 games. The tournament will also feature U-19 teams from Australia and New Zealand. India Under-19 squad: Vijay Zol (capt), Sanju Samson (vice-capt & wk), Akhil Herwadkar, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Mohammad Saif, Sarfaraz Khan, Ricky Bhui, Abhimanyu Lamba, Rishi Arothe, Atul Singh, CV Milind, Aamir Gani, Kuldeep Yadav, Ankush Bains (wk) http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/642365.html Another cycle begins for the young Indian cricketers towards their preparation of the u-19 WC in 2014. Good luck to them.
saneindian Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Hooda and Lamba - two promising pacers..RKT would know more about them.

SLICKR392 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Why no Chand? Well, some people do cross 19 after certain period bud. :cantstop:
namasteji1 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Well' date=' some people do cross 19 after certain period bud. :cantstop:[/quote'] Lol, yea, i edited my post and now question is for Baba! :winky:
King Tendulkar Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Exciting stuff. Lets see who wil be next of the conveyor belt
cowboysfan Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 very few south indians in this team,i am especially worried that karnataka has stopped producing great cricketers after the big three.
SLICKR392 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Exciting stuff. Lets see who wil be next of the conveyor belt Why? You wanna make 50 threads about him as well?
saneindian Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Why no Baba Aparajith? Thats a surprising omission. I hope his father being close to Srini hasn't worked against him and there are genuine reasons for his non selection.
Crookbond Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Why? You wanna make 50 threads about him as well? :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:
G_B_ Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 All these under 19 stars dont seem to have brilliant FC stats. Chand Zol and Baba are averaging in the 30s. Only that seam bowler (sandeep singh? plays for kings 11) has good numbers. Baba is certainly a surprise omission. But is he going to be under 20 when the world cup is being played? He is on the verge of turning 19 in a month and maybe wont qualify for the world cup in 2014?
cowboysfan Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Aparajith will have his 19th birthday during the tournament but i am unsure of the actual u-19 rules.
superstar Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Why no Baba Aparajith? Lol...How long will he be 19 :haha::haha:
SLICKR392 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Lol...How long will he be 19 :haha::haha: As long as he is 18? :cantstop:
superstar Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 As long as he is 18? :cantstop: He is one month short of 19. Cannot select some one for one month.
G_B_ Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 i thought under 19 includes 19 as well? i remember chand being 19 at the time of the under 19 world cup
superstar Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 i thought under 19 includes 19 as well? i remember chand being 19 at the time of the under 19 world cup Why do you want him in U19? He should concentrate on first class cricket. There are millions of people who are longing for an opportunity. I am sure his selection was partly influenced by his father.

He is a good player, IMO.
