1983-2011 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 2011 was better, everyone chipped in at some point
Pagalpanti Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 We did bat well in 2011 as well (Eng tour- The ODI's). We've generally batted well in ODI's @ Eng. I'd agree if this team continued the same batting form in SA. Where we've struggled to even put up 250.
zumi Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 all nations (except England) have used champions trophy (now and before) to experiment. so many of the opposition except England were not at full strength or rebuilding. so i will make judgement on this Indian side after their ODI performance in SA latter this year.
rkt.india Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I dont agree , that lineup of Sehwag, SRT, GG, UV, Vk, ms etc was one of the greatest ODI lineups of all time and we had bowlers good for those conditions eg. Munaf/UV playing crucial roles Another big point is that the quality of opposition now v 2011 is much lower, Pak are worse batting side, sa/aus/sl are useless, so this side hasnt properly been tested But the team has potential in ODI's, wer doing well on slow swinging surfaces which wasnt expected SL and Pak are pretty much the same sides. Pak bowling is better now.
rkt.india Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That team won the WC. This team even if does well will win some BS trophy. BS trophy? WTF? Winning in this format is more difficult. No minnows to bash like BD, Ireland, Netherland. Here you lose one match and you can be out. There we couldnt win against two better teams of our group in SA and England, couldnt dominate even minnows. We didnt look like winning seeing how we played in group stages. Very few of us were thinking we can go all the way seeing our overall performance. This team might not better individual wise but certainly has performed better than that team.

If you look at the quality of the games, they have all sucked with several games reduced due to rain. Let's not kid ourselves, this ain't no WC. BTW those minnows have caused some huge upsets in recent WC which is part of the charm.
saneindian Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Let this team play together for an year or two before making such judgments. Class of 2011 won the WC, our biggest ODI win ever.

saneindian Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Are u joking ' date='the teams like sa,aus are rebuilding[/quote'] And India is playing with all its superstars lol You do realize we have got just 4 members from that WC squad of 15

saneindian Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 What is the topic. Bata dete hain RKT said in WC till the group stages, we were not confident if we will go all the way to win the cup. We lost to SA

Class of 2011 won the WC' date=' our biggest ODI win ever.[/quote'] Yes. We cant judge a team based on one tournament but every team is judged with what they did in a world tournament. Even 2011 team. That team had barely played together in the past one year. That team talent, experience and record wise far superior but this team has played better till now.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Is this a joke? 2011 had Munaf. :isalute: So 2011>2013. Don't need to discuss anything else. /thread
express bowling Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 This topic is more an assessment of the impact a team has on the opposition. The 2011 team lost a lot of credibility because of their abysmal showing in England and Australia. Although most of the bad performances were in tests, but it created an impression among opponents that this team is good at home and useless outside the subcontinent. This team is dominating against all teams while playing outside the subcontinent and that is creating a positive impression about this team. As I said, this discussion is about the IMPRESSION that a TEAM is creating on the OPPOSITION. It is not about the quality and record of individual members of the team. Just think which English team , or should I say team representing England, would we respect more -- one which wins in England or the one which dominates and defeats us in India ? Whether this team can keep up this reputation when we tour SA, we will find out but as of now this team his having an impact on the minds of opponents.
