Lurker Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Having said that,i prefer Kolkata to both these cities, simply because as far as public interaction in culture goes, Delhi and Mumbai pales into insignificance compared to Kolkata. Kolkata has by far the worse infrastructure of the three....but by far a much more vibrant cultural scene which is accessible to the majority of the public on mass scale. Not to mention, neither Mumbai nor Delhi has anything remotely close to the scale, grandeur and complete social immersion as the Durga Puja week in Kolkata. And not to mention, Kolkata has a very good intellectual base- the kind of atmosphere prevalent in College street cafes, the accessibility to books ( the entire college street area lined with book-stalls and the book fair every year) is seriously missing in Delhi or Mumbai. And lastly- the food scene in Kolkata rocks....its got by far the best chinese cuisine in India, with excellent representation from around the country and if you are a fan of sweets, there aint a better place on this wold than Kolkata. I wouldnt compare Kolkatta to Delhi or Mumbai at all. It is a very different city, in many ways still a quintessential Indian city with Indian quirks while other Indian cities chase the American dream. A lot of time I got a feeling of alienation in Mumbai and Delhi. Well more in Mumbai than Delhi. You will walk in say Peddar Road, or Gurgaon and it is not the opulence but the sheer atitude of resident populace that makes you squirm. Never faced that atitude in Calcutta. In many ways Calcutta lives in 1950s and I like it because of that. Easy going people, easy going culture, emphasis on reading and writing, those Boul singer that will just hop on a train and start playing their iiktaara. A lot about is shi**y as well specially the dirtyness and communist party but otherwise Calcutta has more of a soul than Delhi/Mumbai put together! xxx
Gambit Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Have lived in Delhi nearly all my life. Love the city especially with respect to the women and the gastronomy. Despite visiting Bombay only twice, I quite liked it. There is a certain something about Bombay. Have stayed for long stretches in Cal too. I will never forget the day I saw Eden from top of the new Howrah Bridge. Simply stunning sight.
THX_1138 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Open spaces, gardens, and decent housing... i think Delhi has the upper hand there but i hear that Mumbai has quite a vibrant nightlife. Delhi has better museums, libraries and universities.
f.b.m Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 mumbais sachin tendulkar, shits in his pants when coming in at a situation of 20/2. also, mumbai has to use a quota system to get its cr@p players in the indian team . delhi, has the fastest bowler in the world of the year 2008 in ishant sharma, 1) Why is the score 20/2 in the first place? 2) ORLY||?

Desi Cartman Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 If im not wrong Amits actually lives in Noida which is in UP :giggle: I can not compare Mumbai & Delhi since I haven't lived in Delhi for years now and I have never been to mumbai but I will still say "Mumbai Indians" is a pathetic name for an IPL team ...
ludhianvi Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Never been to Mumbai but have stayed for like 2 days in Delhi when I was very young. Cant compare them but what I dont like is crowded trains/transportation systems. A person like me would not even get a chance to get into the damn train:cantstop: But I'd like to visit all around India in the future some day. Would love to visit Shivaji Park with games going on. I'd probably settle somewhere in Chandigarh if I had to choose a city in India
amits Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 If im not wrong Amits actually lives in Noida which is in UP :giggle: I can not compare Mumbai & Delhi since I haven't lived in Delhi for years now and I have never been to mumbai but I will still say "Mumbai Indians" is a pathetic name for an IPL team ... i live in new delhi in the vasundhara enclave area. it still comes under delhi. its the college which is located in noida which is in UP. also, i support players from delhi & UP more than players from other states which explains y i support players like sehwag & kaif more than others
amits Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 1) Why is the score 20/2 in the first place? 2) ORLY||? u just look at sachins record when he comes in with 2 wickets down for not too many runs. u will undersyand what i was talking about. sachin just cant handle pressure and chokes at pressure situations. whereas sehwag, bats the same way ireesprective of the situation. sehwag believes in "if there is a ball to be hit, i hit it" irrespective of the situation & can pick the 4 & 6 balls instantly
THX_1138 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Whats the diff' date=' superficial ppl eitherway[/quote'] you must be from chennai... well madras sucks!

P.P.S: fck you SRT haters :finger:
suma25 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 havent beento delhi when iwas small to my aunt's place . havent been there since . You are either intentionaly lying or are really ignorant. As any known follower of cricket will understand, Sehwag has the cushion of 3 top middle order batsmen and he is EXPECTED to score fast. Sachion on the other hand has a different responsibilty. Also I can PROVE by stats that Sachin's strike rate is not affected regardless of pressure situations but again i dont want to hijack this thread. Just stop talking cr@p just because you can, its not a trait to be admired.
