India's 1st controversy with Bucknor, 1992

"Unfortunately for Bucknor, due to retire in May 2011, the second cricket Test between India and Australia turned out to be a disaster because he became ‘finger-happy’ while dealing with appeals against the Indians, earning him the dubious distinction of being the first umpire ever to have been replaced. Bucknor first rubbed India the wrong way back in 1992-93 when he refused to refer a Jonty Rhodes run out when the third umpire was introduced for the first time in cricket’s history." Here is the video, much requested on my channel! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfWqSw2Ahcs]Bucknor refuses to umpire vs India, atrocious run out decision - YouTube[/ame]

Bucknor dismissed Tendulkar more than anybody else including Anderson. I would say that Tendulkar was Bucknor's bunny.India lost so many matches under his umpiring because of his arrogant attitude against Indians. I think Bucknor cannot digest the fact that India won the 1983 World cup against WI, being underdogs. Clive Lloyd is another person who hates Indians because of the exactly same reason.

It's hard to believe but had this man been competent at what he did, we would have been the first Asian team to win a series in Australia (that too against an-almost ATG side), which is a big deal for us Indian fans. I hadn't started watching cricket seriously back then, even then it gives me heartburn when I watch clips of it on Youtube
