Vijay.Sharma Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 So many idoits happy at the BCCI beahving like idoitic bullies. All you fools will get is no good SA series.I don't think that the people out here are discussing this only from the perspective of this one tour to SA. I think it is more to do with business practices in general. I don't think anyone defending BCCI here wants a curtailed tour of SA. They are mostly taking the perspective of how businesses are run and what is considered fair game in the area of international business. After all high competition international sport is also a legitimate business - it requires investors, it requires employment of people, etc.
King Tendulkar Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Businness you say. And there was me thinking cricket was also a sport. BCCI are also run for the benefit of indian cricket, not to fill the pockets of srinivasan and co. Also not sure what kind of bussiness would say cos we dont like someone in your orgnisation we are not going to do bussiness together and make money. In making money in big companies etc egos and personalities put aside, as the bottom line is what is good for bussiness and making money. Playing in SA is great for cricket and the beloved brand of cricket. So not playing is all about petty ego. Srinivisan and co act as if they own the BCCI. They dont own it, they are meant to be servants of indian cricket, running it for our benefit.
Crookbond Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Business has a concept of "leverage". The person with leverage can over reach and the one who doesn't has to sing tunes. Egos are not put aside (in that case) because the one with leverage stands little or nothing to lose.

We lose a great series away against number 1 test side. WE LOSE LOSE LOSE! But yes if you are srinivasan and co who dont give a dammn about cricket and is only focused on his power and lining his pockets then yes this is all great! You lot acting as if BCCI bigwigs own BCCI. When I repeat they are meant to be our servants. This is problem with all india. People are confused. Just like our politicians are meant to serve the people when in fact they behave like emperoros and we are all too ready to accept. Great BCCI bosses flex their ego and win. We the indian cricket fan lose out. And there was me thinking BCCI should be run for beneift of indian cricket, it is meant to be. But then the support these guys get for their power games is amazing

Surely we lose as a fan from a cricketing point of view but that was not the point of discussion as pointed out already by Vijay Sharma. For once, we were trying to put ourselves in BCCI's shoes and view the world from their prism. This is not an exercise to state the obvious viz. BCCI is evil.
TheWall Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 @ King Tendulkar.. u want to run behind SA.. go ahead... we are not interested. Our interest lies only in Indian cricket. Just bcoz we dont get to play full seroes against SA doesn;t mean Indian cricket will suffer...
G_B_ Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I doubt if Srini is in the BCCI gig for the money. I saw the financials of his company India Cements and it was doing well. He does not need the money from cricket. He is a billionaire in his own right outside cricket. Its all about ego with him. Indian cricket is suffering as a result. Some people are driven by money and others by ego and power. @DM PrasadIyer explained it perfectly. Demanding a window the BCCI would then probably have to pay the other boards to allow their players to participate. Why go through that hassle when the lieks of Nz WI and Sl provide ample players without the window? One thing the BCCI probably need to do is define a proper home season which say extends from October to November and then again February to March. With Dec-Jan used to tour southern countries and July-Aug for the WI, sub teams and United Kingdom. As things stand the likes of England have May June July August Sept as their home international window. I guess the BCCI realised that India are just not play enough at home for the next few years. That means their revenues are see saw. I think they realise that they need a uniform pattern of revenue. It could just be a case of having to schedule some ODIs and tests v WI at home to keep the home broadcaster happy. Might simply be a case of bad management.
Zap_Brannigan Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 BCCI has gone overboard this time in bullying CSA especially airing its dirty laundry all in the open. The casualty in the end is a very good series between 2 good sides. But it is the CSA (and the rest of the cricket boards) that let themselves get bullied. They can easily say no to BCCI, accept lower revenue from other boards and make sure BCCI doesnt bully anyone. But they wont, they want their cake and eat it too. India generates 80% of cricket revenue, yet it sees less than 10% of ICC revenues and around 50% of money generated in India from its international game. Why so low? Why are we still following the cricket structure followed decades ago when the cricketing world was completely different. That doesnt change but giving VETO powers to the strongest board when that strongest board is BCCI, now that changes. If the other boards doesnt want to be told what to do then let it stop taking Indias money starting from the ICC. Let ICC start dividing its money based on what each country brings in. Let BCCI and other boards get the TV rights of their country no matter where they play. All this is fair and will give BCCI very little leverage to bully. But then, all the other boards will rather be bullied than let go of all the money. So if this series is truncated or cancelled, the blame lies in both the boards.

Demanding a window the BCCI would then probably have to pay the other boards to allow their players to participate. Why go through that hassle when the lieks of Nz WI and Sl provide ample players without the window? . England and WI are the only two nations where there is no natural window. The others have very natural one - hence the BCCI requested the ICC-ECB-WICB to come to a conclusion and get that window. ECB doesn't want to change their home season ; in fact they advanced it last year IIRC to accommodate T20 tournaments. If BCCI will fix their home season, we will be called bullies. But, CA/CSA/ECB doing so is just for the "good of the game".

Such stuff happens all the time in business Playing in SA is great for cricket and the beloved brand of cricket. So not playing is all about petty ego. Srinivisan and co act as if they own the BCCI. They dont own it' date=' they are meant to be servants of indian cricket, running it for our benefit.[/quote']Yes, it may be about egos and we don't know the whole story really. But the thing about BCCI being servants of Indian cricket - well, you are not exactly right there. BCCI is a private body and it does not represent "India". It uses the name "India" because no one opposes it. The same is true for all boards across the world. What more, even the ICC is a privately owned body.
