Mr Dhoni, what happened to the long rope you keep talking about? Only applies to your favorites??

Players in form - Rohit and Shami have got their debuts. Wonder what the complaint is about. Rahane will get his slot back once Sachin retires. Also, Ishant hasnt played an ODI since the 'long rope' comment, Raina is no longer in the test squad
Do u need me to remind u how much chances ishant has got compared to yadav inspite of performing below average after 2009.Even vijay who flopped on away tours was persisted . Yadav is indias best test bowler currently and he should walk in to the team .But in india Odi performances are taken as benchmark by captain and selectors.I like rohit and would want him to play, but that does not change the fact some players are given special treatment .

Based on? He didn't even play the previous test series against Aus and played just one test against England due to injury. He has played 1 out of India's last 8 tests. How exactly does he become our best test bowler?

so injury takes away everything he did until then ? even in that last match he got injured in he was pick of bowlers from both sides and before that he did well in australia and again well against windies at home. BTW who according to you is best test bowler of india other than zack ?

Based on his performances in his previous tests and horrible performances by our fast bowlers against england and australia.Yadav was one of the reason we won the 1st test vs england and his injury was the turning point of the series. He looked the best fast bowler of both sides even better than anderson in the first test.

All that is true. But what has he done in the past one season? He was ordinary even in the recent Ranji match. Yes it was OD, but bowled badly in Challenger trophy leading to his exclusion from ODI squad. All that and the rise of Shami contributed as there are only 2 slots for fast bowlers. We will never know, but I don't think he would have been as good as Shami was today.

Even if he is playing the format after a gap of nearly an year? Probably he will turn out to be the best, but it would be better if he plays Ranji, regains form and goes to SA fully prepared.

I also support Yadav's inclusion, should have played ahead of Bhuvi who IMO is not yet a established Test match bowler. See the pre match discussion thread. Rohit's inclusion over Rahane is also completely justified given his current form irrespective of form of cricket.

yeah..its not like bhuvi played last test last month after such a long break you should select your best players

how good was Murli's domestic form when he played ahead of Dhawan in Australia series ?

Him and Dhawan scored centuries in the Irani trophy match playing for RoI leading to their selection.

ordinary based on one match and he played for india before that in odis and showed all those skills which made him good in tests like pace and swing. and one 5 wicket haul in domestic game would have changed nothing and same way one match where he didn ot pick many wickets change nothing as we did not even see the match and he might have bowled well ? who knows. ..he is in squad of 15 so he is good enough to be in team according to selectors so this argument is not even valid tbh..

If everybody remembers how shami was dropped from CT even after good showing In odis .Lets hope sense prevails and we have same yardsticks for players.

His figures are not that bad- UT Yadav 30 6 79 1 2.63 Who knows how he bowled may be he got some edges or bad decisions. Also when u are bowling after being bowled out for 85 even the best of bowlers struggle. I think selectors were looking that he got through the match ,Also if dhoni is preserving him for sa and gets him in next match no hard feelings then.

yep he did ok..nothing special but importantly he bowled 30 overs without problem which shows he is is fit for sure..his skills were never in question in test matches only fitness was which was proved here no ?

We have a pool of bowlers in Bhuvi, Umesh and Shami (and Ishwar Pandey). Need to rotate them around to get them ready for SA and other away tours. Ideally Umesh-Shami should have played here but Bhuvi-Shami isn't bad either. One provides control, the other can attack. With two attacking bowlers in a 4 man attack, too many runs can be leaked, so that explains why Bhuvi-Shami and not Umesh-Shami. People wanted Ishant not be picked, he isn't. Some wanted Zak to be here, that would have meant no Shami debut. Wonder how bad it could have been.
