Texan Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 On the one hand I am extremely elated that Rohit Sharma got his chance in Test matches, I am equally disappointed that it had to be at the cost of Ajinkya Rahane who was given all of one Test match after waiting in the wings for some 20 odd Tests. Mr Dhoni keeps talking about giving the long rope to players like Ishant and Raina when they aren't doing well. Well, Mr Dhoni, what happened to that long rope? Does it only apply to your favorites???
CG Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Lol Long rope is reserved for favourites and rhiti hopefuls only. Not for yadav and rahane
fineleg Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Only ishant sharma, piyush chabla, vennai kumar vagaaira, rp singh types will get Loooong rope
vvvslaxman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Only ishant sharma' date=' piyush chabla, [b']vennai kumar vagaaira, rp singh types will get Loooong rope :hysterical:
Texan Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Only ishant sharma' date=' piyush chabla, vennai kumar vagaaira, rp singh types will get Loooong rope[/quote'] and Suresh Raina (in Tests)
rkt.india Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane will get his chances once SRT goes. He should be slotted at 4, Kohli and Rohit and 5 and 6 respectively.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Players in form - Rohit and Shami have got their debuts. Wonder what the complaint is about. Rahane will get his slot back once Sachin retires. Also, Ishant hasnt played an ODI since the 'long rope' comment, Raina is no longer in the test squad
Texan Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane will get his chances once SRT goes. He should be slotted at 4' date=' Kohli and Rohit and 5 and 6 respectively.[/quote'] That logic does not make sense. He was already in the team when SRT was playing. Dhoni keeps saying that players who have waited longer will get chances ahead of the new guys coming in. What happened to that now suddenly? If long rope can be given to Ishant, Vinay, Raina, why not Rahane?

If long rope can be given to Ishant, Vinay, Raina, why not Rahane? Rohit Sharma is not a new guy. He has waited longer than Rahane. If he was not injured at the last moment, would have made his test debut in 2010 at Nagpur against SA. His bad form last kept him out of the test team and once he got his form back, he is in and because he can bowl a bit of off spin and bats in middle order in comparison to Rahane's top order, he is preferred.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Had Rohit not got his debut, complaint would have been why not the man in form, why Rahane?

I am a HUGE fan of Sharma and IMO deserved a Test spot long ago along with Rahane (in AUS when all Indian batsmen were struggling). I am just questioning the reasoning why only "some" players get a long rope and some get discarded almost immediately. Moving on to the other contentious selection, why Shami over Yadav? In the last Test that Yadav played, he ended up taking 3 crucial 2nd innings wickets that won India the match. If he wants to apply a certain policy, it needs to be applied impartially.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 During the Aus series, OP wanted Vijay dropped for Rahane , said Rahane will never get a chance under Dhoni, even criticized Dhawan's being picked ahead of Rahane. probably a massive Rahane fan not liking the idea of seeing him benched again.
Texan Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Had Rohit not got his debut' date=' complaint would have been why not the man in form, why Rahane?[/quote'] If he truly picked a team on CURRENT FORM ALONE, then a certain Mr Tendulkar would not be able to find a place in the team.

That is just because Yadav coming of from a break and might be rusty and out of rhythm as even his last FC match was not that good. Shami just coming after a good show in ODI series.
Lord Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Had Rohit not got his debut' date=' complaint would have been why not the man in form, why Rahane?[/quote'] Rohit's form is in different format on flatter decks, doesnt mean much for Tests Rahane OTOH scored on tough Lahli track,so its not like hes out of form
Pagalpanti Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane doesn't fit into the current team combination. can't see why the OP is so furious. Rohit/Rahane was more of a case of giving MS a bowling option.
rkt.india Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 If he truly picked a team on CURRENT FORM ALONE' date= then a certain Mr Tendulkar would not be able to find a place in the team. Current form never mattered wrt SRT.
jf1gp_1 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane will get his chances once SRT goes. He should be slotted at 4' date=' Kohli and Rohit and 5 and 6 respectively.[/quote'] Jaddu will be back so might still have to wait if Rohit does well
saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 If Dhoni hated Rahane so much, he would have picked Raina instead of picking Rahane in the 4th test vs Aus (Raina was in the 15). Rohit's current form ensured he earned himself a test debut, Rahane waits for another 2 tests and gets his chance in SA. and the long rope will continue thereafter

Shami just coming after a good show in ODI series. Yadav bowled 30 overs for Vidarbha in a Ranji game last week, how can you call him, rusty?? :headshake: If you call him rusty, what about Murali Vijay?? He hasn't made any runs in the last many many games that he has played in. But he's retained based on his previous Test performances.
