PK was injured after 3rd England test and was not fit enough to play at that time, but he was included in Aus squad and was withdrawn again because of that same elbow injury. Regarding Ojha. They wanted to play 5 bowlers including one bowling alrounder in Jaddu and Bhajji was picked on his past performances against Aus.

Possibly they haven't picked a third because its just 2 tests and they anyway won't drop anyone just after one test. And regarding Gambhir being no better than 3rd opener right now, that is true.

Gambhir will be in the scheme of things as long as others prove themselves. If they pass this test with flying colors he will be out of favor.

Wasim jaffer is indias 5th backup opener ,Really it does not matter much for gambhir as he is already out of the team.

I can understand why somebody would select vijay ahead of gambhir. Point was dhoni thinks that gambhir is no better than 3 rd opener and selector didn't disagree with that. It doesn't prove your statement that dhoni doesn't have much say in team selection. On the other hand if any it proves just opposite of that.

Praveen was never fully fit. He made a hasty come back to domestic cricket to show that he was git. He was just frustrated because of injury. There was a reason he was not picked and if he was fit how come he was injured when the team for Australia was announced during the WI ODI series and had to be replaced by Mithun. Other reason for PK not being picked was we play only 2 pacers at home and Yadav and Aaron's emergence during England ODI series meant selectors went for quicker pacers. Regarding England, PK was good in his own but made to look good because our other pacers bowled pathetically bar a spell here and there, otherwise an average of 30 and SR of 60 on those seaming tracks is not a record which can prove one is a strike bowler.
