"In Darren's role as Australian coach, he will not participate in the IPL," a CA spokesman told Mirror putting to rest speculation whether Lehmann would come back to train the Punjab team. He took over the IPL side last year. A top Kings XI Punjab official confirmed the news when he said, "He does not have the permission, so we can't avail his services." The team is not looking for a replacement. A group of support staff will handle the side. In all probability, Joe Dawes, the India bowling coach, who is also the bowling of the IPL side, will be in charge of the team with active support from Sanjay Bangar, who is the assistant coach. Bangar has worked as the coach of the India A team as well. "Dawes and Bangar will take care of the team," the official said. As the team prepares for the IPL 7 auction, Dawes and Bangar will have to do all the research to prepare the franchise for the auction on February 12 and 13. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the frachise is unlikely to go for any retention. Although David Miller provides the team some food for thought, the management is of the view that the young South African can be retained through the matching card. The Punjab franchise is likely to seriously go after Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. Yuvraj Singh, formerly with now-dissolved Pune Warriors India, is a free bird but Harbhajan has the option of being retained by Mumbai Indians. We will know this in a couple of days.

Royals want many, KKR two, Daredevils unsure http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2014/content/story/708409.html Rajasthan Royals From the time Shane Warne took his band of no-namers to the title in the inaugural season, Rajasthan Royals have been known as a small team that has to outwit sides with more financial muscle. They rarely use up their entire auction money, betting instead to focus on budget buys. While retaining players takes a big chunk out of the auction purse - Rs 12.5 crores for the first Rs pick, Rs 9.5 crores for the next, and so on - the players retained are not paid that amount. They can be paid more - for eg, MS Dhoni could be offered a contract of, say, Rs 20 crore - or less. Perhaps Royals are hoping to pay less than what they lose from the purse, as they are looking to retain many players. Among the names doing the rounds are Shane Watson, Man of the Series in 2013, opener Ajinkya Rahane, who hit four successive half-centuries to finish the Champions League last year, Australia allrounder James Faulkner, who made a big splash last season with his death bowling and big hitting, and Kerala teenager Sanju Samson, who showed immense composure even in the finals of the Champions League. Allrounder Stuart Binny also has an outside chance of being retained. Kolkata Knight Riders In 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders decided to rebuild their team from scratch, deciding against holding on to any of their players. They bet big on Gautam Gambhir as the man to build their team around, and it paid off as they won the title in 2012, bringing Kolkata to a standstill with massive celebrations. Knight Riders have shown their shrewdness in auctions by bidding huge money in 2012 on little-known Sunil Narine, who promptly produced a Man-of-the-Series performance in their run to the title. Gambhir and Narine are the players Knight Riders are considering retaining. The 2013 season was a disappointment for the team, though, as they finished seventh, a long way off the pace. Similarly disappointing was the form of Yusuf Pathan, who couldn't produce the performances expected from one of the team's highest earners. Another key player has been allrounder Jacques Kallis, though at 38, age will hurt his chances. Delhi Daredevils Despite dominating the league phase in several seasons, the title continues to elude Delhi Daredevils. A team that experiences big highs and big lows, the 2013 season was perhaps their worst, as they could collect only six points, even fewer than the now disbanded Pune Warriors managed. Like Daredevils, the team's iconic player Virender Sehwag has had a horrendous 2013, losing his place in the Indian team in all formats, and struggling to score on the domestic circuit. Never the fittest of players, Sehwag is now 35, and Daredevils could consider someone younger to be the face of the franchise. They have plenty of big-name overseas players, and talks are said to be on with David Warner and Kevin Pietersen, though it is unclear whether an understanding has been reached. They have others like Mahela Jayawardene and Morne Morkel, but Daredevils are unlikely to retain them. Many stars for Mumbai, one for Sunrisers After years of getting close to the title, Mumbai Indians finally got their hands on it in 2013, providing the perfect send-off for the talismanic Sachin Tendulkar. Over the season, they also settled on the biggest active cricketer in Mumbai cricket, Rohit Sharma, as their captain. Rohit has since blossomed in international cricket as well, which means picking him as the face of the high-profile franchise is a no-brainer. They also have several Twenty20 superstars in their ranks, though there are concerns over the extent of Kieron Pollard's knee injury that has sidelined him since the Champions League in early October. Lasith Malinga and Ashes hero Mitchell Johnson sharing the new ball provided one of the most riveting passages of play in the 2013 season when they shackled a rampant Chris Gayle, and they possess the pace to rattle most line-ups. Among the other Indians, Harbhajan Singh has been pivotal to both of Mumbai's Champions League successes but the word is that he is unlikely to be retained. Mumbai will likely choose between two of their key batsmen, Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik, for the fifth available spot. Sunrisers Hyderabad After the termination of Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad surprised many with their success in their first season, finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League. To make things even better Shikhar Dhawan, a player who was a middling batsman when they bought him, has emerged as a bonafide star after a run-filled 2013. With franchises desperate for a player the team can be identified by, Dhawan is set to be retained for big money. The other Indian who has delivered for them is legspinner Amit Mishra, who has built up a terrific IPL record, but he is unlikely to be among those the franchise holds on to. They also have Ishant Sharma and Parthiv Patel in their ranks, but neither has done well enough to merit retention. Sunrisers' other high-profile players are foreigners. Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White haven't been roaring successes and are set to go into the auction, and though Dale Steyn delivered some high-quality spells, non-cricketing reasons suggest he too is likely to join them. One overseas player the franchise is interested in is South Africa's wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, who stunned India with three consecutive centuries in the recent ODI series. CSK spoilt for choice, Kings XI search for one The most successful franchise over six years, and a team that aggressively went all out to retain the core of the side during the previous all-in auction in 2011. In the three years since, they have progressed past the league phase each time, an achievement their captain MS Dhoni is proud of. They are perhaps the team with most viable options when it comes to retaining players. Dhoni was the most expensive player in the original auction back in 2008, and possibly remains the player who would fetch the biggest bucks in an open auction. Giving up Rs 12.5crores (approx US$2m) from the auction purse for Dhoni would be a bargain. Suresh Raina may not exactly be flourishing on the international stage, but he remains the IPL's highest run-getter and a player to fear in the less-exacting environment of the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings thinktank also loves allrounders. They have at least two of them who are prized in the T20 format: Dwayne Bravo, whose 32 wickets last season was the most taken in one IPL, and Ravindra Jadeja, for whom they shelled out US$2m two years ago and who had a golden year in international cricket in 2013. Other contenders include offspinner R Ashwin, whose variations have confounded most IPL batsmen, and the openers Michael Hussey and M Vijay, who have set the base for many a Super Kings victory Kings XI Punjab In contrast to Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab have fewer stars and no Indians who are regulars in the national side. Being a franchise that works on a tight budget, it is unlikely they will retain any players. The biggest Indian names are Piyush Chawla, who has had reasonable success in the IPL, and Praveen Kumar, who has struggled with injuries this domestic season. Neither of them are candidates to be the face of a franchise, or team captain. The overseas contingent has more proven T20 performers. Shaun Marsh has been consistently destructive over the years, David Miller is remembered by IPL fans for playing the innings of the tournament last season to stun Royal Challengers Bangalore, and then there's David Hussey, who is among the format's leading run-scorers but had a mediocre season in 2013.

Yuvi would be better imo.
But making him the skipper wont be a good idea considering his IPL form has not been good but its possible he will be made the skipper as Harby has more chance to be retained by MI.Bit disappointed that DD may not retain any of the player as building a new team might be a bit risky at least having one or two of them you have some sort of continuity plus still feel Warner after Viru has been the most recognizable player for DD.
