MCcricket Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Ishant Sharma seeks Allan Donald's advice Ishant Sharma who enjoyed a modest tour of South Africa, was given some invaluable advice by non other than legendary pace bowler Allan Donald January 01, 2014 Durban Datta Debasish He told the lanky Indian paceman: “When you get tired, lock your grip before releasing the ball. You will gain strength and not be haywire.” Ishant said: “I have spoken to many fast bowlers but no one has told me this. It was great to speak to him after the Durban Test.” Ishant took five wickets in the two Tests played in Johannesburg and Durban and four wickets in the ODIs. This article was posted in Mid-Day and other publications and I was surprised that Ishant wasn't aware of this even a club level pacer should be aware of this as I was also his landing foot as RKT has correctly mentioned is a problem, I did look at his bowling in the early stages and his pace was about 136 k but he got a lot of bounce due to the wrist action and then he worked on his action and got faster and more lethal but also his decline started with experimentation and now he is too scared to tinker and resigned to being a support or mediocre bowler. Ishant needs to do three things to be a good bowler Get his wrist more involved as far as releasing the ball and snapping it at the right movement and locking it at load up and he will see more bounce seam and bowl a heavy ball Get his left leg straight and sole touching the ground rather then the toe with a bent knee at the point of delivery and he will see accuracy and gain more pace with same effort also could avoid injury and his head will stay up for a longer time Most importantly he needs to be aggressive and loose the fear of failure and play with a open mind without overthinking He has a few things going for him, his stature, fitness is good, also he did well in patches and knows he belongs there if he gets a few things right, selectors though did make a mistake in selecting him back too soon where he hasn't worked on his form, action, technique and figured out what is wrong, also I am surprised a professional cricketer like him and few others in India are so much in dark regarding technique and bio mechanics as far as bowling and what is required to be a world beater
The Outsider Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Only one who can inspire Ishant is ICF's Sharma.
Vijy Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 No matter how much advice Ishant gets, he is easily one of the poorest Test pacers of all time - a true ATG.
special K Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 No matter how much advice Ishant gets' date=' he is easily one of the poorest Test pacers of all time - a true ATG.[/quote'] He's your greatest ever fast bowler.
Vijy Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 He's your greatest ever fast bowler. And Ian Salisbury is your greatest ever spinner. :hysterical:
