Holysmoke
Dhaka: Bangladesh expressed its shock and surprise on Monday at former Australian batsman John Dyson's decision to take over as coach of the West Indies. Dyson, a former Sri Lanka coach, had been in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board to replace Dav Whatmore, who had refused to sign an extension to his contract in May. "It's shocking for us. We came very close to appointing him," Gazi Ashraf Hossain, chairman of BCB's Cricket Operations Committee, said. "We even discussed when and on which flight he would come to Dhaka to sign an agreement. "Against this backdrop, his move to West Indies is surprising. It is a major setback for us." The BCB moved to sign Dyson last month after their three shortlisted candidates, Johan Harmer, Jamie Siddons and Dave Houghton, all opted out. Dyson, who played 30 Tests and 29 One-Dayers between 1977 and 1984, was named coach of the West Indies on Saturday. He was in charge of Sri Lanka for almost two years from 2003 and succeeded compatriot David Moore as West Indies coach. The BCB faces a race to appoint a coach before Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand in December, where they will play two Tests and three One-Day internationals. They have set a deadline of October 30 to appoint a coach, although Ashraf said Dyson's decision to turn down the job had made the process all the more difficult. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Link to comment

fineleg
Dyson pulled a Graham Ford on Bangladesh, maybe in a more shocking "manner". But still...whats there to ROFL? Maybe the humor is in seeing others get in trouble? Link to comment
Ram
What kind of crass un-professionalism is this from John Dyson ? Is this the way he deals with national cricket boars ? Hold negotiations with more than one board , keep each other in the dark and accept the more prestigious/pliant offer ? If i were the powers-that-be in the windies board , i would definitely question him about his negotiations with Bangla cricket board and ask him for some serious explanations. Thoroughly disappointed with Dyson's conduct. Clearly exposes that , for these guys, getting the coaching job is more of a moneymakin/profile hyping excercise , rather than actually serving cricket , which is what it should be. Link to comment
fineleg
MM, I agree with part of your post. Expect more professionalism in dealings from these guys. But professionalism is all we can expect, "serving cricket" is not something we can expect. Pay them well, expect them to be professional and deliver. Thats the job. Dyson behaved unprofessional. siddhu
:hysterical::hysterical: Would be more fun.. that before he signs the contract, BCCI contacts him and lures him into being the coach for India (not that I want him.. but would be fun)... Would like to see WICB selectors faces then!!!:finger: Link to comment

DesiChap
ouch ... Low blow dude   But Bangla atleast have Test match status ... Ireland on the other hand .... :D:haha: Link to comment
kablooee87
haha I knew that would get a reaction. That point of the post was that the only reason many people here like seeing bad things happen to Bangladesh is because of WC '07. Which shouldn't be the case because that implies Bangladesh are close to India in terms of quality of cricket. India are miles ahead as shown by the recent tour. Link to comment
Cricketics
not really tabloo.. though we still remember we lost to bangla... that doesn't mean we hate them.... watch out for pak vs bangla series.. i mean 1971 celebrationz would repeat again then... Link to comment
