Fresh perspective on recent ODI failings

Our biggest problems -- 1) Not choosing enough players who have the game to succeed both home and away. The type of player being selected is not being sufficiently considered. 2) Distinct favouritism while retaining some players or bringing them back. Like Ishant, Ashwin, Raina, Rohit while ignoring others like Pankaj, Umesh, Mishra, Pujara. 3) Preferring economical bowling only and ignoring wicket taking ability unless that bowler is economical too. 4) Tactically weak captaincy, dependant on strong gut instinct, which works well under known conditions but ,when new conditions are faced then the captain looks clueless. Other teams are making specific plans against our players while we are rarely doing it. 5) Bowlers are not high quality and captain or bowling coach do not have the ability or aptitude to bring out the best from these one dimensional ordinary bowlers. 6) Some batsmen, like Dhawan and Rohit, are not putting any thought into how to improve their batting in overseas conditions. 7) Pacers look like they are not practicing accurate bowling with any seriousness. 8) Captain seems to have lost some of his motivational power and there is a lack of team spirit after a long time. Is he tired from too much cricket ? 9) Very few practice matches in away tours.

1. Practice matches do matter. India lost the ODI series in SA, but fought well in the tests because these ODIs served as practice matches. Two three days games are a must for any tour outside the subcontinent. Practice matches are no longer being played regularly and this is showing up in the massive white washes that happened recently. (never remember so many whitewashes between top teams in the previous decades) 2. Practice matches are not enough for Indian bowlers. They need a longer stint like playing real matches in county, A tours etc. 3. Fielding standards are not uniform across tours. With a weak bowling side like India, fielders should not even give up half chances if they have to make India competitive, so our fielding needs to be consistent. We need to send a strong message to all players that bad fielding may cause them to be dropped for the next match. No use if you are a batsman scoring a 100and dropping three chances that allowed the opposition to get 300. 4. Dhoni won't win the WC this time. His time is up, all this crap about an experienced captain at the WC is going to rob us of the opportunity of grooming a new young captain for the future. A new captain is our only chance of reversing India's fortune overseas.

The present chairman Srinivasan is corrupt complete moron I still remember how he said that getting whitewashed in England/Australia was not a big issue as home teams are always stronger and how we will beat them at home just showed how much overseas tour was valued. Dhoni saying overseas tour are practice matches again was embarrassing. There is no backup pool of players where the players don't take their place for granted.
