Fresh perspective on recent ODI failings

Some points I feel have been neglected on this forum thus far. 1. Again, no warm up or acclimatisation games. Our batsmen and bowlers were thrown into the deep end as usual. BCCI does not value warm up games as they do not make any TV money and hence are not commercially viable. But they fail to consider the effect on commerce of your team being drubbed 4-0 abroad. And yet some boo boos on this forum want the BCCI to run the world game. 2. Too much pressure on bowlers. Shami, Bhuvi, Umesh and Vaaron are a talented bunch. However, due to lack of exposure to these conditions, and the sheer pressure of being a cricket player for India and having instant success demanded from them they have just crumbled and tried too hard. The short and wide bowling on display in the 4th ODI is symptomatic of a bowling unit trying to hard. These bowlers need to be nurtured and told how to not go searching for wickets but rather just stick to basics. Dhoni- publicly ridiculing them didn't help matters. 3. Bad fielding. I think in nearly every ODI match there was a catch dropped. Our amazing fielding in the Champions trophy gave us an edge over other teams. But recently, standards have gone down the toilet as the players have become lazy and less hungry. When your fielding is bad, you deflate the confidence of your own bowlers and give the batsmen a second chance to make a contribution. 4. Dhoni's captaincy- yes he annoys the heck out of me too. But in defence, he has won the last two major world ODI tournaments and probably deserves a chance to defend the next world cup. But he needs to be told, not to play the containing game and hope we can chase the total but rather to attack and look to bowl the opposition out. 5. In the first three ODIs, we only lost by small margins- hence consideration of above not so obvious factors should pay some dividends.

Our powderpuff bowling means that 300+ totals chase is a given on any match ..for full last season including the series against Australia , batsmen kept salvaging the situation but the pressure of every match would have told on some day ..now that time has come .. Also ,The problem is accentuated by selfish batting by Rohit and Shikha's failings are putting immense pressure ..Rohit makes one good score in 20-25 matches to keep his place and even when chasing 300+ , is content to block out ball after ball , thus putting pressure on entiure batting lineup . For this reason itself, he needs to be dropped pronto .

Now you have the IPL clashing with County guys like Umesh or Aaron could benefit by playing in county cricket

The thing I am worried about is next we tour England and we play 5 Test matches and One Day and T20's before that we play in IPL I am afraid that it might be like 2011 tour again bowling is very limited batting is hopeless can see another 5-0 drubbing :nervous: as there won't be any planing again

BCCI just cares about revenue and not the actual cricket as demonstrated by the common recurrent traits: 1. Give IPL priority- it is the biggest thing in the indian cricket calendar. make sure our cricketers even delay surgery/play through injury to ensure they are fit for this marquee event. 2. Forget playing untelevised matches- they make no money 3. Don't let india players play abroad in foreign competitions- it will strengthen the commercial value of our competitors. If DK, Robin Uthhapa, Sehwag, Gambhir Irfan and Yusuf were playing Big Bash League- wouldn't it possible beneficial for indian cricket

Though I won't lie I do post in the Ipl auctions page the auctions excite me but Ipl itself has reached a saturation point its stale in a way as most of the players are ageing and they change teams plus the domestic Indian trundlers are embarrassing to watch.

RP lost his way after IPL is out of shape now Sreesanth was brilliant at times a complete moron now he has launched a music band and is acting in Telgu or Tamil film.Out of all these Irfan at least is a hard working cricketer he's an honest working cricketer

Inability to take SINGLES, except Kohli and Dhoni none seemed interested or even trying to take singles. each game had 150-160 dots which is unacceptable. imagine if we have only converted 20% or those dots to singles this series would have been 2-2

Lankans back in 2011 fared better than us in the Test series and One Day. Zaheer breaking down in the middle of that Lords Test Match was seriously embarrassing

I have respect for India as a team but here in the UK you are no match for England. Your batsmen will struggle in seaming conditions and I doubt you have the fire power to get 20 English wickets. India have no Johnson, no Harris, no Siddle - not even a Jackson Bird. The batsmen will FEAST on Kumar, Sharma and co. :yay:

I remember back in 2007 we in a way got a good chance to get used to the conditions in UK. Started with playing against Ireland then 3 match series against South Africa then we played Scotland then we had two side games against English county side. After that we played 3 test match series which gave us good amount of time to get used to the conditions compare this to the 2011 one where we got only 5 days time.
